The Spain Grand Prix 2006

Posted on Jumat, 31 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
For the first time Fernando Alonso won in his own land. Alonso won at Barcelona the Spain Grand Prix with 130,000 persons as witnesses last Sunday (May 14th).

The Formula One Grand Prix hadn’t been that popular in Spain until Alonso entered the competition. Even though it has had important pilots like Mansell, Senna and Schumacher. For example, the European Grand Prix that took place at Jerez. Only 20,000 persons attended to the event. On the other hand, 100,000 spectators attended the equivalent bike race.

For the Spain Grand Prix, tickets were sold out two years ago. This is a new record, since the Formula One events have always been transmitted only by a small TV channel in Spain but now is part of the big TVE station getting to a much bigger national and international audience.

As Alonso said, he won last year’s title but this one makes him feel better since he performed greatly in his own country. Giving his countrymen the pride and the excitement of seeing him achieve the victory.

Fernando Alonso Diaz, who was born on July 29th, 1981 in Oviedo Spain, won the World Driver’s Championship title when he was 24 years old, breaking Emerson Fittipaldi’s record of being the youngest Formula One Champion. With this victory, Alonso also ended M. Schumacher’s run of five consecutive championships.

Alonso who at the present time is running for Renault, has been awarded the 2005 Prince of Asturias Award of Sports, the youngest to receive the prize

Alonso and McLaren’s principal Ron Dennis announced on December 2005, that Fernando will be moving to McLaren for the 2007 season.

Nitto Tires - Why They Are Special

Posted on Kamis, 30 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
There is no question that there have brilliant innovations brought forth from the automobile industry and in particular the tire and rubber industry whose nascent birth went hand in hand with that of the automobile itself. We as drivers and rider owe much to the comfort and safety that we both rely on and also are able to not even consider to make way for those things in our lives with less stability. Those in the auto and tire industries know this. And without question, Nitto Tires understands this. However, this is not the realm of concern for Nitto.

When safety counts after the speeds of comfort of ordinary drivers has long since been surpassed, well, this is the territory for Nitto Tires. When its getting the laser quick punch off the line that will make all the difference, well, this is definitely the territory of Nitto. You see, Nitto undoubtedly puts forth the same level of value in regards to research, development and innovation as any other leader in the tire industry, but there target concerns lie well off in a territory all their own.

For good reason, the average automobile driver and the manufacturer of all the parts that allow the auto to go need and do consider such things as, brakes, frame and motor engineering. These are the base components of the car that anyone involved can realize are integral to its overall performance. But, Nitto tires will in one motion concur with that perspective and simultaneously motion for a realization that these only take you so far and that the importance of the tire (in general, but with unflinching assurances in the high performance realm) has been greatly disregarded. It is this stance that pushes Nitto Tires everyday to the limits of high performance tire quality.

NBA MVP Voting is a Serious Issue

Posted on Rabu, 29 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
It is the time of the year when the NBA’s Most Valuable Player is voted for. This means 125 voters among who you can find media people that devote their entire professional careers to go across the country analyzing every move every game and sharing with the readers and viewers. It is comforting to have people of this knowledge on the sport voting for the best player in the NBA.

If you remember the 2005 MVP for the NBA was expected to be between Shaquille O’Neil and Steve Nash. Nash ended up winning by very little difference. That year the voting was so stretch that people ended up thinking if the race between them affected the voters. I personally do not think that was the case.

For the 2006 Season a similar thing is expected to happen. The reality is that MVP voters usually are reluctant to recognize young players or those from teams not considered cream of the crop. With the exception of the 1998-99 season, there hasn't been an MVP winner from a team that won fewer than 50 games since 1982. That is not to say that 50 wins is a pre-qualifier, but it illustrates that voters tend to reward the best teams.

The playoffs are about a month away and there is plenty of suspense surrounding the final weeks of the season and the candidates to the MVP. Is it Kobe Bryant keeping the Lakers in the playoffs? Maybe Chauncey Billups get it thanks to his clear display of guidance in Detroit? What about LeBron James, who took the Cavaliers to a higher level? We will certainly find out sooner than you think.

There Will Be No Triple Crown Winner This Year

The winner of the Kentucky Derby won’t be able to participate in the Belmont Stakes Race, since he’s been victim of an accident during the second competition for the Triple Crown: the Preakness Stakes.

Barbaro is recovering from an injury suffered a couple weeks ago in a career- ending breakdown at the Preakness. Barbaro shattered his right rear leg. The 2006 Kentucky Derby winner is under a 24/7 watch in a 12 by 12 foot stall. Three resident veterinarians are taking good care of the champion.

The full physical that he is submitted to every day includes temperature, heart and blood checks, examination of his feet, a look at the fiberglass cast and specially designed left hind shoe, the doling out of medication and walks around his new home. Every six hours Barbaro undergoes an abbreviated physical practiced by a veterinarian, a nurse or a medical student.

Barbaro was expected to become the next Triple Crown Champion, after his performance on May 6 in the Kentucky Derby. Two weeks later, he would suffer an awful accident and broke his leg. Barbaro was transported to the University of Pennsylvania’s Hospital at New Bolton Center in a horse-ambulance.

The next day, Barbaro underwent to a five hour surgery to repair three broken bones with a metal plate and 27 screws.

The winner of the Preakness Stakes: Bernardini won’t be able to run the Belmont Stakes race either since the owner has decided the horse needed a break. This is the first time since the year 2000 that the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the winner of the Preakness Stakes miss the Belmont Stakes eliminating any chance to have a Triple Crown winner.

Helpful Beach Volleyball Tips To Improve Your Game

Posted on Minggu, 26 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
There are a few essential skills that every beach volleyball player should know. If you are playing for fun, it is not nearly as important to learn these rules, but it will make you a better over all player and someone that is more fun to play with.

The first skill that you will need to learn is how to serve. The floater serve is the most basic overhand serve and the easiest to learn. The first step to performing the floater serve is getting your foot position correct. You will want to stand, facing the net, with your feet staggered. Your foot opposite of your hitting arm should be in front. You will want to have most of your weight on your back foot and the ball in your non hitting hand. Next, extend your arms in front of you, parallel to the ground and move your hitting hand to your ear with your elbow high. Then you will toss the ball about two feet above your head and in front of your shoulder. While moving your weight to your front foot, hit the ball with your arm extended in front of you. This sounds easy, but it will take a lot of practice to get it right.

The second most important skill you will need to know is how to pass. You will want to start with your feet shoulder width apart and your knees slightly bent. When the ball comes to you, you will want to bring your hands together forming a good forearm platform with your thumbs parallel, locking your elbows, and pushing your forearms together. When you make contact with the ball, move your arms forward and upward slightly and transfer your weight forward. You will be able to direct where the ball goes with your shoulders.

Once you learn these two skills, you will be ready for some real beach volleyball games or just some fun.

Italian Pride Hit with the Sentences for the Calcio

Posted on Sabtu, 25 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
After they won the World Cup, Italy finds itself in one of the biggest match fixing scandals in the decade. Four of the biggest clubs on the Continent have been recently found guilty of paying to have the marches fixed and the severe punishments include demotion and points deductions.

Juventus, the champions, where relegated from Serie A to Serie B and they were given a 30 point deduction for next season. Fiorentina was also relegated to Serie B and hit with -12 points for next season; Lazio, relegated to Serie B and docked seven points. Milan docked 44 points in last season's standings, dropping them to eighth place and outside the qualifying places for European competition, the Milan was not relegated and they will start next season with -15 points.

The scale of the punishment is difficult to comprehend for many. Only Roma among the champions of the past 15 seasons remain untouched. Those four have won all but two of the past 20 titles. But the response to the sentences has been mixed within Italy. It definitely strikes around 20 million fans of the soccer in that country, since their best players are now forced to play abroad.

Some say that the sentences are not fair since the sport of soccer as a whole is not corrupt, and some thought that this kind of justice is what it takes to clean the calcio from corruption. And some say that the next step should be to rewrite the rules of Italian soccer in order to prevent this from happening again.

Can A Used Kayak Be As Good As A New One?

Posted on Jumat, 24 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
A new kayak costs a lot of money. But with a little research, a used kayak can be just as good at half the price.

Kayaks are a big investment for many people. Paying for a kayak does not have to hurt. You can buy a used tandem kayak. Tandem is another large kayak maker that produces dozens of different models of kayak. The Tandem brand has been around long enough that great Tandem kayaks can be bought used for excellent prices and, most of the time, in good shape.

It is easy to find a used kayak. The best way to find a good used kayak is to use the Internet. You will be able to find personal used boats for sale as well as sales through dealers. Modern kayaks have such high quality that demand is rapidly growing for good used models. You can save a lot of money by looking for a used kayak.

When buying a used kayak, it is important to inspect the boat thoroughly before buying it. Kayaks must be in like-new condition. You do not want to put your money into a boat that has been damaged. Dents or patches on the kayak's hull can degrade with the boat's performance. When you have done your thorough check, you might have found a great deal if the kayak is in excellent shape. You could spend thousands of dollars on a new kayak, but you might spend less than half that on a used one! Saving money is important, but so is investing your money.

Before you go to inspect a used kayak, be sure you have done good research and have found the best deals available. You will also want to be sure that you are close to where you plan to buy the used kayak. Your research could be a great reward.

You will then be able to afford more and better equipment, and, just as important, be able to spend more time on the water.

Horse Riding

Posted on Kamis, 23 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Horse riding looks fun and enjoyable but it is a skillful job. For a smooth ride, both horse and the rider need to strike the right balance. It is important for a rider to follow a horse’s motion and stay in balance, if not you will end up gripping the horse with your thighs, clinging on to him by holding their calves etc. if this creates some unbalance in the horse’s motions, his ability to turn would get affected.

If you want to understand how a rider’s balance affects a horse’s movement then read through.

- An off-balance rider typically falls behind the motion of the horse.
- Leaning to far forward is another mistake that riders make.
- Leaning more towards one side also affects the balance.
- Shifting the weight onto the wrong seat bone is another mistake that should be avoided.

If a rider goes off balance, the horse feels uncomfortable and is bound to react but this reaction differs from horse to horse. Some horses might speed up and move forward faster and faster, some might slow down and even stop running, some might turn more or less than the rider’s expectations and some might turn in completely different direction than what the rider intended.

In the above mentioned scenarios, if anybody has to be blamed then it is the rider and not the horse. the horse’s reaction gives you signs of the rider’s balance issue. If you are facing similar problems with your horse, check out your own balance and the position of your body position before blaming the horse.

NFL Releases the 48 Underclassmen Eligible for the April Draft

Posted on Rabu, 22 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
The NFL released this week its official list of the 48 underclassmen granted eligibility for the April 29-30 draft, this list includes cornerback Youboty, Santonio Holmes, safety Whitner, Reggie Bush and Vince.

Holmes’s was not a surprise. Every day there are more and more lists that have Holmes rated as the top receiver in the draft. But there were more questions about the draft status of Whitner and Youboty. Youboty rates fourth-best defensive back. Youboty is 6 feet 1, 188 pounds and he is a solid tackler this brings him good possibilities since this is what the NFL likes. The recent history of OSU cornerbacks in the NFL might help, as well.

Donte Whitner said his decision to forgo his senior season at Ohio State in favor of entering the NFL draft was not an easy call.

There was speculation that he could be a late second- or third round pick, but he said he has gotten enough feedback from confidants to believe he could be a late first- to second-round pick.

Whitner believes he could run 40 yards in 4.3 seconds, which would impress NFL scouts and now that he is no longer in school he can concentrate on his workouts. He also said he turned down a couple of paid autograph offerings before agreeing to do some for Ohio Signatures Unlimited four days ago, which effectively ended his college eligibility. Other notables who declared for the draft were North Carolina State DE Mario Williams; running backs Maurice Drew of UCLA, Brian Calhoun of Wisconsin and Laurence Maroney of Minnesota; wide receiver Devin Hester of Miami; and defensive back Ko Simpson of South Carolina.

Sports bags come in all shapes and sizes these days and are as versatile as they are different. If you are an average soccer mom there is a bag for you, just as there are sports bags that are specifically designed with figure skaters, swimmers, softball players, and football players in mind. Gone are the days of one-size fits all sports bags. Today there are sports bags that are made for everything from overnight sleepovers to weeklong treks into the wilderness and all things in between.

From the rugged to the down right fancy there are sports bags not only to suit every need, but also every taste. Sports today are almost as much of a social event as they are a competitive undertaking and it shows. You have girls going from the soccer field to beauty pageant rehearsals and everywhere in between. Sports equipments, specifically bags are more and more often designed to reflect the evolving nature of sports today and the many facets of those playing these sports.

We want our children to be happy and be busy, too busy to try things like alcohol, drugs, and many of the other things that children can get into. So we turn to sports as a great way for them to stay clean, sober, and safe. As such, we find that we are quite busy keeping our children busy and we need sports bags that assist us keeping our sports equipment separate and organized. Sports bag makers have seen the need and are stepping up to the plate and addressing the need.

Keep your needs and your families’ needs in mind when buying a sports bag so that you buy the best bag for you. Also allow your children, who are actually playing the sports to have a voice in the selection of their sports bags. They are much more likely to take care of their bag, if they actually care for their bag.

Diving can be a truly spectacular hobby

Posted on Minggu, 19 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Diving can be a truly spectacular hobby, and many people now go on holidays especially to go diving in some of the world’s best spots – Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, for example, or South America’s Galapagos Islands, among many others. What these dive sites have in common is spectacular marine animals, with sharks being a particular favourite, as well as colourful coral and other interesting marine plants.

To go diving, first you need a qualified instructor and access to scuba apparatus. It is a good idea to learn the basics of diving in your home country before you travel a long way to go diving, as you will have more fun in exotic locations if you have at least some idea in advance what you’re doing.

The most popular diving holidays are often ‘live-aboards’, which means that you live onboard the dive boat for the entire duration of the trip. This allows you to save both on accommodation and on the cost of diving, as well as being a unique place to stay. However, be careful to travel light, and take a short trip on a boat first to see whether you get seasick – you’ll have no fun on a live-aboard if you do.

There are lots of other things to be careful of if you do decide to go diving. For one, you need to make sure not to come up too fast, as sudden changes in water pressure can be harmful to the body. You also need to be careful about the heat of the water you dive in (it shouldn’t be drastically different from body temperature), and about wearing a wetsuit to avoid getting stung by the many underwater creatures and plants that can give you a nasty scratch. Don’t worry too much though: as long as you pick a good diving school, your instructor should go through all the risks with you thoroughly, and give you all the equipment and knowledge that you will need to avoid them.

Roller-Skating - a popular sport

Posted on Jumat, 17 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Many people seem to think that roller skates are a relatively recent invention, and a popular 20th-century kids’ toy. However, roller skates have actually been around for over two centuries, and have many other uses apart from child’s play.

The most commonly seen kind of roller skates today are actually roller blades, also known as inline skates. They have all the wheels in a line instead of arranged in the classic car-style formation, which allows you to travel much faster at the expense of making it a little more difficult to balance, a similar trade-off to that made with a two-wheeled bicycle.

In fact, the original purpose of roller skates was as a means of transportation: a kind of ‘wheeled shoe’ that you could fix to your feet and move from one place to another with little effort. Although it is rare, some people still use them this way today – particularly teenagers, but also office workers in cities who don’t have too far to go and don’t want to take a bike.

Roller-skating is also a popular sport, and it is even thought that it might soon be added to the Olympics. Skate-parks that have been designed to accommodate the resurgence of skateboarding can also be easily used for roller-skating, and skaters can pull off similar tricks and manoeuvres to skateboarders this way. Roller skate racing is also quite popular, with people competing to get from one side of an obstacle course to the other in the fastest time.

If you’re still not convinced of the popularity of roller skating, it’s worth noting that every week in many of the world’s largest cities, tens of thousands gather and skate together. The biggest and most famous event is Paris’ Friday-night Pari Roller, but smaller events can be found in Berlin, Tokyo and London, among others.

Stay Off & Away From Tracks To Stay Safe

Posted on Rabu, 15 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
The change of seasons encourages us to be bold, to step out, to get there sooner. While bold action can be admired in some cases, it's a different story when it comes to railroad tracks.

Nearly a dozen people age 17 and under have been severely injured or killed on railroad tracks in the beginning of spring. Unfortunately, it happens nearly every year about this time.

A 6,000-ton train does not know what time of year it is. Here are a few important tips that could save a life:

• Modern trains are quieter than ever, with no telltale "clickety-clack."

• Because of its size, the average train takes a mile or more-18 football fields-to come to a stop. Trains overhang the rails on each side by at least three feet. Loose straps hanging from freight cars may extend much farther.

• If you need to cross the tracks, the only safe place to cross is at a designated public crossing with a crossbuck, flashing red lights or a gate. If you cross at any other place, you are trespassing and can be ticketed or fined-or lose your life.

• If you come to a crossing and see flashing red lights, don't ignore them. Stop: These lights signal the approach of a train. Never walk past these lights or around lowered gates at a crossing; wait until the lights have stopped flashing and the gates go completely up. If the gates stay down, there may be a second train coming on that or another track. Wait until the signals tell you that all is clear.

• Any time is train time. Don't assume that because it's late at night, the middle of the day, the weekend, or whatever time or day it is, trains are unlikely to come.

These tips will help you and your family and friends enjoy this season and many more to come.

Nebraska’s Heisman hero

Posted on Selasa, 14 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Like many Heisman Trophy winners before him, Eric Crouch has found out stardom in the college ranks is not a guaranteed ticket to pro football fame and fortune.

Crouch, out of Nebraska, was voted the most outstanding college player in 2001. The Cornhuskers have produced many offensive “greats” but, by the time Crouch left the school, the quarterback had surpassed them all, leaving a trail of new records in the NU books. Among other highs, he is the NU career total offense leader (7,915 yards), holds the record for most career rushing yards by a quarterback, single game total offense record (360 yards), is the touchdown leader (88), and set an NCAA record for most career rushing TD’s by a quarterback (59).

After trials with the Rams, Packers and Chiefs, Eric accepted the NFL consensus he lacked size at quarterback and was sent packing to NFL Europe for the 2005 season as a safety. He didn’t agree. Stepping down from glory is jagged pill to swallow.

Eric Crouch wants to be a professional quarterback.

The Canadian Football League is giving him that chance. He impressed the Toronto Argonaunts enough during an off season trial, he’ll come to camp with a full shot at backing up starter Damon Allen.

Nebraska’s star isn’t the first quarterback of note to get his career in gear playing in the CFL. Wally Moon comes to mind. The Argonauts themselves have had Joe Theisman and 1984 Heisman Trophy winning Doug Flutie at the helm in the past. Eric Crouch isn’t even the first Nebraska Heisman winner to get his start up north. Johnny Rodgers was a first round draft pick in 1973 but he turned down San Diego in favor of Montreal.

Who knows? If things go well for Eric Crouch up there in Toronto, he might never want to come back.

Ice Skating through the Centuries

Posted on Senin, 13 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Ice skating has a long history. In fact the origins of ice skating date back to the early ninth century. The purpose then was far more practical, however, than recreational. The earliest ice skates are believed to have been found in London and made of horse bone. It is believed that these skates served utilitarian purposes such as movement from place to place in order to search or scavenge for food rather than the largely recreational purpose that most ice skates have in modern society.

Ice skating over the centuries has become more of a recreational activity and provides long hours of entertainment to both skaters and spectators alike. From figure skating to ice hockey all around the world there is a fondness for this particular activity that transcends time and speaks volumes about both the complexity of this activity and the simplicity of it.

Ice skating is a sport that is both loved and hated by its practitioners. For some the entire sport is ice skating, for others the actual act of skating on ice is simply one aspect of a very complex and multifaceted activity. And others are simply content to skate. In and of itself ice skating provides a significant challenge for those just learning and becomes second nature to those who have been doing it for long periods of time.

The difficulty of ice skating is much like that of roller skating. Once you learn, you never really forget. You may have a few unsteady moments in the beginning after a long absence but all in all it comes rushing back once you get out there and try again. Whether you are an avid skater or simply a breathless spectator of the sport, I’m sure you’ve found the dichotomy between the beauty of figure skating and the brutality of ice hockey fascinating. I know I certainly have.

Choosing a Pool Table

Posted on Minggu, 12 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Pool tables come in 7-, 8-, or 9-foot lengths. The size you choose is a matter of available space, but keep in mind that tournament length is 9 feet. If you’re a stickler for authenticity, go for the tournament length.

The pool table is comprised of a body, a bed, side cushions, a felt-covered surface, and pockets. The body can be made of wood, laminates, wood veneer, plastics, and sometimes metal. It can be simple and mass-produced, or it can be luxurious and ornately decorated. Some models will blow your mind with their unconventional styles!

The pool table bed is usually made of one piece of slate; this is the only type of surface that serious pool players will accept. Cheaper beds are available if you aren’t a stickler for sure lines and straight shots.

Cloth or felt color can come in a variety of colors. Sometimes a manufacturer or dealer will let you customize the color of your table when you buy it.

Brunswick is a leader in the industry. Brunswick offers over 34 models of pool tables, each uniquely distinct in overall style and flourish. Choose the Artisan model for sleek lines, the Greenbriar for a statelier centerpiece to your game room, or the Manhattan for a wood and stainless steel paean to the urban lifestyle! The Contender series from Brunswick offers some more affordable models, plus a few extra game tables like air hockey and foosball. You can visit the Brunswick website at brunswickbilliards.com. There you can “build your own table” by selecting a style, a cloth color, and even a size (7, 8, or 9 feet.) You can also learn more about the contemporary world of billiards.

In my garage you’ll find (admittedly among a rather unsightly long since forgotten piles of sundry items): one truck, small in stature, but large in heart; one motorcycle, poor in starting capacity, but rich in non-running memories; and finally one cool 4 wheeler, that needs neither my silly description nor your having to strain at considering how much fun it is. An odd little something has come to define my relationship with these three machines. Although the greatest amount of affection goes towards the ATV and is the vehicle that driven the hardest, a level just slightly above “none at all” has gone into the consideration towards its tires.

This oddity is further complicated by my understanding of the importance that tires play in the safety of other types of vehicles. Very little thought is needed to go into the realization that cheap ATV tires can bring forth as much trouble as those on any vehicle. In fact, given the wide variety of terrain that ATVs are driven on and the wide varieties of styles in which they are driven attention to the tires seems all the more imperative.

And its true, without proper purchase considering terrain and driving style, or even worse yet, the blatant purchase of cheap ATV tires, the is unquestionably an accident waiting to happen. In regards to the cheap ATV tires that should be avoided at all costs, this is due to their inability to handle the real world surfaces found anywhere off your driveway. With the potential ruggedness of the land the cheap ones will lead you a probable flat tire of a frustrating stick in the mud. With this in mind, the tires of all your vehicles must garner equal attention, even if your feelings for the vehicles themselves do not.

What A Great Night

The Time Machine brings me back to Chancellor Avenue, Newark, New Jersey, circa 1964. Vintage cars like the ’62 Oldsmobile Spitfire, 1957 and 1958 Chevy’s roamed up and down the street passing The Bunny Hop, The Burgerama and Dave’s Hot Dog Haven. Did we only eat French fries, hot dogs and hamburgers? I think so.

On May 19th, 2005 I had the pleasure of attending the Sunday morning group of boys that used to frequent Chancellor Avenue. This event perpetuates the camaraderie that existed amongst us boys. For some old boys the time machine went back to the 1920’s. There were some guys there that were 90 years old. I felt great. I was one of the youngest guys to attend.

Wow what a group. There must have been over 200 boys of Chancellor there. All of us used to hang out in the neighborhood. Most of us went to Weequahic High School. Some went to South Side High School, and some guys were from Hillside. And most of us played baseball, basketball, softball, or football in our day.

The joyousness of the evening created a very loud room. I could not hear myself think at times. I found myself leaning over and placing my ear near someone’s mouth to hear what they were saying. I saw a lot of this going on. Yes there was a lot of ear to mouth.

What made the evening special for me was seeing some of my old buddies that I had not seen in quite some time. In some cases over 20 years. Being able to hug some great guys like Mr Barone, Stanley Levy, Big Jeff Schulman, Joe Margulies. Sandy Markowitz and Jake Davis made the evening a great night. I felt special because of the special people I was with.

This was a great night.

Wooden Baseball Bats - From Wood to Aluminum

Posted on Kamis, 09 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
The baseball bat is a simple concept but a pretty complicated object. Here are some baseball bats facts to enlighten you about its interesting history and design. The more you know about baseball bats, the more you will find yourself in love with this fascinating sport. It's essential to get a grip on the bat's most basic concepts before you make a buying decision. So, without further ado, here are some interesting baseball bats facts:

A baseball bat is essentially a smooth “rod” that the batter uses to hit the ball thrown by the pitcher, signaling the other players to run around the bases and ultimately try and score a homerun. The thickest part of the bat, the part that is supposed to hit the ball, is called the “barrel” and the best part of the “barrel” for hitting the ball is called the “sweet spot.” The barrel ultimately gets thinner and thinner until it forms into the handle. On metal bats, rubber may wind around the handle for good grip. The “knob” is at the very opposite end of the barrel's tip and helps a batter to hang onto the bat so that it doesn't fly away! Think about this before purchasing that cheap bat that no one else seems to care for.

In the early days of baseball, younger players were most prevalent and the majority of bats were handmade, so sizes and shapes varied wildly. But as baseball became more of an official, regulated sport, so did the baseball bats. In 1859, rules were made about the diameter of the bat, and to this day every kind of league has their own individual rules. Therefore, be sure you are clear on your league's rules on baseball bat measurements. Although all bats look very similar to each other, there are minuscule differences that are not obvious to the human eye. I hope these historic baseball bats facts were useful!

Strong leg muscles really can make a world of difference.

Apart from the weight machines, some of the most effective machines in a gym are the walking, running and climbing machines. Walking and running machines include steppers and treadmills, while climbing machines have pedals that you push with your feet, making it feel like you are climbing stairs.

The reason these machines are important is that they exercise our leg muscles, which are some of the most useful muscles in our body, but at the same time some of the weakest. After all, we are descended from apes, who didn’t walk upright – in evolutionary terms, we’ve only just started walking, and our legs aren’t all that great at it yet. Building good muscles in your legs will help you stay on your feet and go for long walks, hikes or runs without feeling tired quickly, like so many people do in this age of the car. Once you get started, you might even want to take up walking as a hobby, and the more you walk, the better your leg muscles will get.

But in that case, why not just go for a real walk, or climb up and down real stairs? Well, you could do that, but you’d be leaving yourself open to the weather on the walk, making it difficult to have a regular walking routine, and while you could just walk up and down some stairs for half an hour each day, people would probably look at you a little oddly.

Within a few weeks of using walking and climbing machines, you should start to feel more energetic – it is surprising how much of how much energy we feel we have comes from the strength of our legs. Even if we don’t realise it, we are on our feet for a lot of time every day – yes, even if you work in an office and drive to work – so strong leg muscles really can make a world of difference.

What makes an aeroplane fly?

One thing that you really need to understand before you can build a toy plane that actually flies is what it is that makes planes fly in the first place. Luckily, with a little explanation, the basic scientific principles of plane flight aren’t too difficult to understand.

The key to flight, understandably, is the wings. Instead of flapping their wings like birds do, however, planes propel themselves forwards using an engine in much the same way a car does, and then rely on the shape of their wings to slowly lift them off the ground.

But why do a plane’s big, flat wings lift it off the ground? The answer is all to do with how the air travels over and under the wings. A plane’s wings are flatter on the bottom and more rounded on the top, which means that air takes longer to travel over the wings than under them. The higher air speed under the wings means that there is always more space for air to travel under than over – effectively, the air is being forced to go under the wings. When the plane is moving fast, enough air is being forced under the wings that the plane takes off.

Once the plane is in the air, it can either glide using its wings and a little forward power, turn up the forward power to ascend, or turn it off to descend. A plane can also steer left and right using a rudder on the air, much the same way as a boat uses one in water, and go up and down faster by tilting its nose. All of these choices are the ones you see represented on a typical toy plane remote control, and aside from the added computer-controlled navigation and radar systems to check the locations of other planes in a real plane, they are pretty much the same controls that you would find there.

My Passion For Playing Snooker

Posted on Minggu, 05 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
One of my great passions in life, if you could call it that is playing snooker. I became interested in snooker from watching players like Alex Higgins and Jimmy White in the 1980s.

At the age of around ten, I was bought a small five foot snooker table for Christmas. It was probably one of the best Christmas presents I was ever bought. I would seemingly be never off this little snooker table and would invite some of my friends round to also play.

When I was aged twelve, I joined a snooker club with a close friend of mine and we started to play on the full size snooker tables. The tables looked so massive and suddenly the art of playing snooker became that much harder.

My first aim was to get a break of ten, which was then followed with a break of twenty.

I became quite obsessed and some would say quite sad, as whenever I had any spare time or spare cash, I would go down to the snooker club to practice. I would even practice their on my own. My ultimate goal was not to become a professional like my idols, Higgins and White, but to achieve a break of one hundred.

I entered many tournaments with mixed success, I probably won twelve minor local tournaments. I also joined a league team and played on most Wednesday evenings during the snooker season.

At the age of twenty seven after playing snooker on full size snooker tables for fifteen years, I finally managed to score my first one hundred break. A week later I managed to get another one hundred break, a bit like the buses hey!

I must admit my determination has now started to wane and even though I still love to play snooker, I have not managed another one hundred break since.

The Magical Story Behind Yellow Wristbands

Posted on Sabtu, 04 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
From a few years back fashion has played a very important role in our society. Who when is time to go out doesn’t look at himself or herself in the mirror, or asks if her/his outfit looks good, exactly everyone does it. Fashion can be a pair of jeans that everybody is wearing, or a hair style or a pair of shoes that just seems that everybody has to have. However when we are talking fashion from three years and even until today we cant help but talk about the pro-cause wristbands that says “Live strong.”

These wristbands were made in order to get money to donate to the foundation that is trying to find a cure against cancer, it was invented, or it was sponsor by the famous Lance Armstrong. It was a great idea, and it was accepted worldwide, and it not only was a huge success because it sold a lot of wristbands, but it imposed fashion. Everybody wanted to have a wristband. It was amazing, it was like a cycle because if people dint have one they wanted one, and if they already have one, they wanted another one.

This madness with the wristbands shows that fashion can influence a lot when it comes to being accepted, and it shows that if something is popular then everybody wants to have it, and if they cant they create their own, as one can see today there is not only the typical yellow wristband that says livestrong, but there are plenty of wristbands that say all kinds of messages, for example over spring brake I got a pink wristband that said social butterfly, and my friends got other ones that were red, orange, that said messages about a certain beer, or how the beach is the best place on earth.

Learn how to spin a pen around your thumb

Posted on Jumat, 03 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Most people know of someone, or have seen someone who can effortlessly spin a pen around their thumb. A great majority of those people have then tried to do this, and failed. This article will help teach you this skill. Learning how to pen spin is a great way to increase your fine motor skills and hand-to-eye co-ordination, and is a brilliant way to pass the time. Also there are hundreds of other tricks to master other than the thumbaround.

Things you will need
1. Ideally a pen or pencil of a decent length and devoid of protruding parts.
2. Some spare time.
3. Patience.

Guide
1. Hold the pen between the thumb and the first finger, with the center of the pen to the left of the thumb (if you are right handed).
2. Place your second finger onto the side of the pen (roughly where the center is). Just let the finger make contact with the pen.
3. With your second finger, gently push the pen in a circular motion, and try to get it to rotate around the thumb, and remember to release your grip with the first finger.
4. As the pen travels around the thumb, move your first finger away from the hand, ready to catch the pen.
4. Close your first finger to catch the pen as it completes one counterclockwise revolution (right handed).

Tips
1. Use the first finger to hold the pen, and the second to push. Don't try to push with both, or hold the pen with both.
2. This may take a few days to perform competently, and will take patience.
3. Find a longer pen to practise with if you are struggling.
4. Don't push too hard on the pen, only a small amount of force is needed to get it to travel around the thumb.

My Prized Piece of Baseball Memorabilia

Posted on Kamis, 02 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Back in the day ...

I used to deal in baseball cards, and some memorabilia in the mid to late 1980's. Through an old client I had the opportunity to sell a very rare piece of baseball lore. The piece that I was fondest of was a rare document signed by Harry Wright. A founding father of the game. The document was a contract of some player that was signed by Harry Wright, the manager, circa 1870. It was written on Cincinnati Red Stocking’s letterhead.

I was impressed. I was so excited to be entrusted with this rare artifact. I remember saying to myself.
“Oh my god. You have got to be kidding.”
I was astonished. I was in awe. I felt like I was let into a special group.

I sold the piece in the range of $10,000 - $12,000 if memory serves me. But selling the piece did not compare to the dreams I had about the contract.

Imagine, what it must have been like 130 years ago on the ball field. The baggy uniforms, and the teeny gloves for the players. The pitchers, hurling both games of a double header was common practice and a home run was a rarity. Boy has the game changed.

Handling that document made the early times of baseball real for me. I visualized those men playing in those old ballparks. I felt like I was part of that time. I was having a dream. I was there, back in the late 1800's sitting in the stands. Smiling and watching baseball - Back in the day.

Handling this artifact was like punching a time clock and never punching out. I was in baseball memorabiliaville.

I can see why some people are so zealous about baseball memorabilia. Their baseball fantasy made a lot more sense to me after I sold this Harry Wright piece.

Little League Baseball Bats - Make Your Kid Swing Like A Pro

Posted on Rabu, 01 Desember 2010 | 0 komentar
Different leagues have different standards for baseball bats. Professional, adult leagues (the ones that hope to make it to the World Series) require classic, wooden baseball bats. But Amateur leagues allow for lighter, more powerful metal bats. When it comes down to equipping your child with the best bat they can possibly get, it takes more than just buying him any ordinary bat.

Furthermore, in high school leagues, baseball bats must be more than 67 millimeters in diameter, so it's only suiting that the requirements for Little League baseball bats are just as stringent! This is no surprise considering the difference in size between adolescents, adults and children. The following requirements are typical and good to know if your son or daughter is thinking about joining a league and baseball bat shopping might be on the horizon.

Little League baseball bats cannot be more than 33 inches long or have a barrel diameter of more than 2 ¼ inches. Also, they must be taped around the handle. To understand how much a bat weighs, look at the negative number that it is associated with. If a baseball bat is 30 inches long and its number rating is -10, that means the bat weighs 20 ounces. Lighter Little League baseball bats are more powerful than heavier ones (and also will hurt a child a lot less if it accidentally hits them in the head, which is a good thing since there is no crying in baseball!), but they are also more expensive. The surefire way to zero in on the perfect little League Baseball bat for your child is to make some test swings before uou head to the counter.
