NIT Versus NCAA National Championship

Posted on Kamis, 31 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
From March 14th and for the next three weeks until April 3rd, 64 NCAA College Basketball teams will be performing after one common goal: to win the National Championship in Indianapolis.

The top four seeds in the NCAA tournament are Duke University in Durham, North Carolina; Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania; the University of Connecticut and the University of Memphis.

In 1981 the NCAA wanted to increase the number of teams that would participate in this tournament from 48 to 64. The NIT declared they wouldn’t be able to hold a first rate post season tournament if this happened. Four years later the modification was accepted and since then there have been 64 teams on the bracket.

In 2001 the NIT filed an antitrust lawsuit claiming the NCAA was trying to put the NIT out of business. With the trial under way last year, the NCAA reached an agreement to buy the NIT and end the litigation.

The NIT is formed by 40 teams. The four top bracket seeds for this year are the Universities of Maryland, Michigan, Louisville and Cincinnati. They all are former NCAA tournament champions.

Basketball icons like George Mikan, Lenny Wilkens, and Walt Frazier are part of the NIT’s history. Future pro legends Reggie Miller and Ralph Sampson were NIT Most Valuable Players.

After 68 years the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is suffering new changes and improvements after being bought by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, including new marketing strategies, more geographic diversity and TV coverage of bracket selections. The NCAA says it bought the NIT to settle the antitrust lawsuit and to improve the postseason gala for the good of the game.

NYU, Fordham University, Wagner College, Manhattan College and St. John's University owned the NIT through the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Basketball Association. All semifinal and final games have been played at New York's Madison Square Garden. This year's NIT which also starts today ends on March 30th.

Tee Off With Disc Golf at the Top of the Rockies

Posted on Selasa, 29 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Disc Golf, also known as Frisbee Golf, is a simple sport that almost anyone can enjoy. Disc Golf has taken off in popularity in the last few years, since it requires relatively inexpensive equipment and most everyone has experience throwing a Frisbee. Combine that with fact that most courses are free and have beautiful surroundings, and you have an inexpensive outdoor sport that can provide hours of entertainment for the whole family.

Courses can be found just about everywhere these days and generally consist of 9, 18 or 24 holes. The “holes” are actually baskets with hanging chains to slow & secure an incoming disc. On an average course these holes can be anywhere from 150 to 500 feet apart, and have water hazards to make things interesting. A bad throw could result in a lost disc unless you are prepared to do a little swimming.

Discs can cost between $8-$20, so they are easy to replace, and come in three basic types. The driver is normally a harder disc that you can rocket off the tee. But be careful, because a misfire can result in a long walk. The putter is a softer disc made to grab the chains of the basket from a shorter distance. In between these two you have your midrange discs that can vary in weight and flight style.

At Winter Park Resort you can find an 18-hole course that is located at the top of Winter Park Mountain. At nearly 11,000 feet you have spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, and can enjoy a nice lunch on the wraparound deck of the Sunspot. Discs can be rented at the base of the mountain and you must ride the scenic chair lift to the top, unless you are up for a little hike.

Course Information:
Holes: 18
Tee Type: Dirt
Course Length: 9655
Average Length: 536.39
Holes Under 300’: 3
Holes Between 300’ to 400’: 4
Holes Over 400’: 11
Holes Over 900’: 3
Highest Point: 10,925 ft.
Lowest Point: 10.425 ft.

Stay just a five minute walk from the base of Winter Park Resort. Slope View Bed and Breakfast offers views of the Continental Divide, unique amenities and a knowledgeable staff. 970-531-2386

Scuba Diving – More Accessible than you thought!

Posted on Senin, 28 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Since the early 20th century, SCUBA diving has gone from an incredibly risky undertaking well out of reach for all but the fabulously wealthy to a relatively safe sport with a rapidly growing participant community.

SCUBA stands for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus, so named for the tanks and other gear which divers carry on their backs allowing them to breathe underwater. Although this gear termed “life-support equipment” and a commitment of real training is necessary in order to become safe and proficient enough with it to dive even in a small lake or quarry, technological advancements and improvements in science and engineering have enabled longer times underwater, deeper dives, and reduced danger in this exhilarating activity enjoyed by athletes and nature lovers.

Having originally been popularized by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan, who built the Aqualung (a name still used in Britain to describe Scuba equipment today), Scuba is now enjoyed by millions of people worldwide ranging from locations as temperate tropical waters to under-ice sub-arctic diving for scientific purposes or by adventure seekers.

Many people are unaware of the length of time necessary to attain Scuba proficiency and certification – in the United States, the two major certification bodies are National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) and Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI). Depending on the course, new divers can get certified in as little as three to four days of actual instruction – since the courses are based on performance standards and not on hours of instruction, this number can be higher or lower. Also, if a diver wishes to do more technical and dangerous dives or to use more advanced equipment, more training would be necessary in order to ensure safety.

Anyone who enjoys vacations to tropical areas or who appreciates nature and enjoys the water can now consider Scuba diving, thanks to the advances mentioned in science and engineering, as well as the establishment of standardized certification and training programs worldwide. If you’ve never considered it, much more information is available online to help you decide if Scuba makes sense for you.

How is your pool game?

Posted on Minggu, 27 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
My pool game is pretty strong these days.

How is you game?

When we look at our past record of playing that billiard game pool, I think most of us will find that our game improves as time rolls by. This holds true for those of us who play pool on a regular basis anyway.

It seems that players will increase their skill level and then plateau for a while and or possibly even go into a slump.

When we play through the slump however, we usually notice improvement in our game and then continued improvement until the next plateau. I know for me this cycle has occurred numerous times over the past 20 years.

The last several years, the slump is only obvious to me. My game is pretty strong about any day and even though I know I’m in a bit of a slump or that I could be playing better.

When you are evaluating your own pool game or you are down on your game, remember that when you shoot your way out of the slump, you will be playing better than ever.

Shooting some billiard drills is a good way to accelerate your way through a slump. Sometimes a good competitive match for some money or a nice friendly bet will do the same thing.

How strong is your game?

Do you run racks on a regular basis? Do you need a few innings to complete a game?

Have you ever studied the fundamentals of billiards?

If you have not studied the fundamentals or you don’t know any practice drills, then I would suggest that you learn both. You can find almost anything on line and my blog will lead you to some cool resources. There is even a free billiards fundamental course on my blog.

Learning the fundamentals and shooting some practice drills can improve your game in many ways.

It will boost your confidence and the tougher shots will become routine for you.

You will know which shot to take and which path the cue ball will take.

You will notice huge improvements in your over all pool game.

Leave a comment with your thoughts, questions and stories on this article. I would love to hear from you and I’m sure others who read this in the future would enjoy that as well.

To Your Run Out Success.

Paintball -- Retreat to Win

Posted on Sabtu, 26 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Suppression is a way of distracting the opponent so that they fall short by not seeing the other team that is already starting to invade. Suppression's goal is not to get rid of enemies. Control and concentration are needed to keep a team member from shooting.

A team who uses suppression as a tactic should consist of three or more players. Each member must know that their main objective is not to eliminate the other team's members; although that could be true in other events. Movements during this game should be accurate and targets must be aligned in order to make sure that the opposing team is unaware of the suppression. A steady target and aiming of fire from the suppression players must not be in unison to leave the enemies with a puzzled feeling.

When making an assault, two or more of the paintball players who are making the suppression constantly distract one of the opponent's players in order to disguise the players who are about to invade and attack the opposing team. Suppression often conceals the other players and if done well, would eventually destroy the enemies who would have to retreat and could soon be eliminated when caught.

The other role that is played by the rest of the team is invading. The players that are involved in the invasion must try very hard to hide themselves from the opponents while the suppression team is doing their job. This requires patience, control, and discipline to keep from firing in order to save the position. Make sure that with one shot severe damage to the opposing team is incurred rather than firing at one enemy player that did not realize the invader was there.

The invasion players target at least the majority of the opposing team's players. Once they are in position to capture the flag, they must fire with great power and with full force. Since paintball guns are really loud, as soon as players start hitting target it must be accurate as there is no turning back. Enemies will know where the guns are firing from so the invasion team will have to incur damage all at once to keep the opponent from counter attacking. This will be shown by the amount of paint that is shot at the other team.

How to Get Fit and Healthy with Aerobic

Posted on Jumat, 25 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
There are all types of gizmos for aerobic activity, and if you are new to the wonderful world of exercise, it can be hard for you to sort through it all.

These aerobic activity gadgets range from simple steppers, or jump ropes, to exotic machines whose function is almost impossible to sort out. The reason for all of these aerobic exercise toys is not because they are necessary, or even always useful for your exercise plan, but simply because of money. The fact is that, with the popularity of aerobic exercise, it is inevitable that people will market new fads and products that claim to make it easier, more effective, and more fun all at the same time, but all of that is nonsense. The important thing in aerobic activity is to elevate your heart rate for a sustained period of time. How you do that is entirely up to you. As long as you are exercising, you can go without the toys. That is, unless you like them in which case, I say go for it.

Some of the best forms of aerobic activity are the traditional sports. If you get together and play basketball twice a week with friends, this alone might be enough to keep you fit and healthy. The important thing is to get some kind of aerobic activity, and to make it something that you enjoy enough to keep with it. Personally, my favorite aerobic activity is one that quite a few experts have agreed is one of the most healthy forms of exercise workouts: I love swimming. The advantage of swimming is that it works the whole body at once. Most exercises, such as running or soccer, only work the legs, or at most only partially work the upper body, but when you swim there is no part of you that is not getting some kind of a workout. This is great for you, and in addition, there is no impact. Running will wear out your knees, as will many other of the popular aerobic activities, but swimming does not compress the joints, so there is no compromise to the health benefits that it holds. I love this aerobic activity, but it might not be the right one for you. The best advice I have is to join a gym for a month. This will let you try out lots of different aerobic exercises and find out which ones you like.

Cooper Mastercraft Tire - What They Can Offer You

Posted on Rabu, 23 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
There you are loading up your family for the annual summer vacation to the cabin. How much time have you spent preparing? Well, everything at work is taken care of for your absence. The house is completely shut down and locked up; with neighbors ready to implement the precautionary measures, in case plans B or C need to be enacted. All necessary good have been pack and double-checked. The gas tank is full, the oil has been changed and the insurance card is stowed safely for easy location. What did you do about the tires? Well, something, for sure. I’ll bet that you looked at them; at least to check the air pressure, but probably at best to consider the wear they’re showing for a possible rotation. Am I criticizing? Absolutely not. And why not? Because you need to not worry about anything else because thankfully there are companies out their, like Copper and their Copper Mastercraft tires, that can and do do the worrying for us.

Copper Mastercraft Tires come directly from a company that has been doing the worrying of the safety of us and our families for close to one hundred years. It is Cooper that has a completely separate facility that is dedicated to the research that’s needed in order to create (and has the successful track record indicating that they have created) the best tire possible.

So, we don’t need to worry if the tire that our family is riding upon has been extensively tested to assure against unnecessary puncturing. Or when we come into that sharp turn as we head into the hills, we don’t need to let the slightest fear enter our heads wondering if the tire has been scrutinized for its traction. Because, the Cooper Mastercraft Tire has been. So, we can head off to our time off and bask in relaxation and worry free moments, because the Cooper Mastercraft will get us there. Its just all the other stuff we need to worry about.

Pool Billiards League Play. What League do you play?

Posted on Selasa, 22 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
I titled this article Pool Billiards league play so it will be easy for someone who is searching either word to find this article.

I currently play on a BCA team once per week on Thursday nights and two APA teams, one on Tuesday and the other on Fridays.

The APA league is handicapped and we use the APA equalizer system. This comes into affect on Tuesday nights because it is a regular APA league. This league is 8 ball and my skill level is a 7. This is as high as it gets in 8 ball.

I played a guy ranked as a 3 this past Tuesday, which meant I had to win 6 games before he won 2 games. I had him down 3 to nothing when I cut a ball in the corner and accidentally kicked the 8 ball in with my cue ball. This put the heat on me and he was on the hill. I cruised through the next 2 games and he had a chance to beat me on the final game. Lucky for me he missed the ball before the 8 and I cleared the rack to win the match 6 to 1.

I am ranked a 9 in APA 9 ball, but I am not currently on a 9 ball team. What is your favorite Pool Billiards game?

Our Friday APA league is an all star league. This means that we all play heads up with no regard to skill level or handicaps. We play a combination of 8 ball and 9 ball and it is a race to 7. (First to win 7 games) The player who wins the lag at the beginning of the game chooses either the break on the first rack or which game is played first. (8 ball or 9 ball)

The Thursday BCA league is not handicapped and everyone plays heads up. This is an 8 ball league and 5 players take turns shooting one game each per set and we play 5 sets in a night. This past Thursday night I won 4 games and lost one in a long safety war. I had 2 break and runs from the 4 wins.

I would love to hear about league play in your home town and it would be cool to find out if you have a ranking system and what your skill level is. Drop me a line and let me know. Do you prefer to play pool or billiards heads up or is a handicap system better for you?

To Your Run Out Success,

Ted

Pool Tournament Dr. Cue Pueblo Colorado

Posted on Senin, 21 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
I’m sitting in the “Classic Q” pool hall in Pueblo Colorado in between matches in this tough action pool tournament. It’s almost 4 PM and I have been here since 10:00 AM this morning.

I was lucky and drew a bye in the first round and then won my first match 5 to 1 a few minutes ago.

There is definitely some tough action in this tourney. We have several players from Colorado Springs and Denver and then of course there is Dr. Cue (Tom Rossman) from out of state.

This is the 13th annual Dr. Cue Pool Tournament. By far the biggest tournament in Pueblo and one of the bigger billiards tournaments in Colorado. I think there are 85 players this year which is one player more than last year.

The format is 8 ball BCA rules. It’s a race to 5 on the winner side of the bracket and a race to 4 on the one loss side. We flip a coin to determine the break on the first game and then it is alternating breaks after that.

With a $40 entry fee, only the toughest shooters around get in. When you get an open shot, you better get out (run the rack), because a second shot probably won’t happen. I always say, You miss, You lose.

The pool tables all have new cloth and the one I played on was extremely fast. I missed a table run on the 3rd game because the cue ball rolled to far on the ball before the 8 leaving me hooked behind the 8. I hooked myself so good on that one that there was not even a good bank angle to make a hit.

I gave up ball in hand on that one but luckily my opponent had a couple of clusters and was not able to break them out and clear the rack.

I won the flip when the match started and began the match with a break and run. My opponent had the next break and he answered with a break and run. This was a surprise because his cue ball rolled behind one of my balls and he could not see the 8 ball. He made a table length Masse shot on the 8 ball to answer my run.

This is definitely a fun pool tournament and I will be keeping you posted on the out come.

To Your Run Out Success,

Ted

Let’s play pool.

Don’t you just love to play pool?

If you answered yes to the above question, you are not alone. (I know big surprise)

There are thousands of pool players at various skill levels. According to yahoo search marketing software, 87000 people did a search for pool cue last month alone. Isn’t pool a great sport? I know many people do not thing of it as a sport, but it really is a sport. (Check your ESPN guide and you will find billiards quite often.)

I love to play pool. We had a league match last night and while taking a few practice shots before the match, it dawned on me that after playing the game for over 25 years, I still love to play.

Last nights match was short and sweet. The opposing team was short a player, which set the stage for a quick match since we only had to play 20 games instead of the normal 25.

I played 3rd and the score was one to one when I played my first game. I won the coin toss and started with a pretty decent break. I pocketed a ball on the break and proceeded to clear the rack. I shot a nice break out on my only trouble ball, put down all the stripes and my cue ball rolled kind of funny on the 8 ball.

I had a long shot on the 8 and barely had room to clear one of my opponents solid balls. The eight ball hit that solid ball on the way by and the 8 didn’t fall. The next shot I took was following a safety from my opponent and it was a Masse kick shot. I made a good hit on the 8 and spun my cue ball to a nice spot leaving my opponent a tough shot.

He missed, I shot the 8 in the corner and our team was ahead 2 to 1. I could have picked up $1 from each of my team mates if I had made the first 8 ball attempt. We pay one dollar on the run.

I had no run outs last night as opposed to last week when I had 2. I did have to pay out on a few runs. Two of my team mates were in the zone. I went on to finish the night with 3 wins and one loss. Our team won by a land slide. It was a drag for the opposing team because they had to give us 5 games due to their missing player.

Let’s play some pool!

To your run out success.

Pool Tables – Fun For The Whole Family

Posted on Jumat, 18 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Did you know that the first pool tables made an appearance in nineteenth century horse racing betting- poolrooms? Strange but true…though at that time the game was known as Billiards and tables were put up there for people to kill time between races. Because the game was set up in ‘pool rooms’, it was eventually named pool.

In those days pool tables looked a lot different from their present Avatar. They were just ordinary tables where the balls kept rolling off (Didn’t they see it coming?!) To handle this problem wooden railings of about 4-6 inches wide were added to the sides and viola! You could shoot pool like never before! Later the table went through further modifications, customizations and improved over the years to evolve into its current form. Though Pool or Billiards as it was known then, has always been seen as a “bad boys’ ” game, it is today one of the most popular sports across the globe.

If you too, are looking out for a good quality table, settle for nothing less than a solid hard wood with a slate surface. We recommend slate over veneer or wood because it levels perfectly and offers a smooth playing experience. Whether you want a standard size 8 feet X 4 feet table or a tournament 4 1/2 feet 9 feet one remember to check the quality of the surface fabric, which could be either wool or a woolen blend.

Slate tables could burn a hole in your pocket with prices starting from above $ 950 but nonslate is more affordable hovering around $350. Again this varies according to the size and the quality of wood and other materials used. To make life easier, try online auctions and stores to get a good price and no-hassle shipping. There are also always great deals going on online, so don't rush into buying one without shopping around first.

The Fun Of Bingo Halls

Posted on Kamis, 17 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Many people around the world from Australia to Zambia flock to bingo halls to play their favourite game. Bingo halls come in all shapes and sizes, from the small town community halls to buildings specially built for bingo.

The specialized bingo halls have the feel of a Las Vegas casino, with all the flashy lights and elegant interior and furniture. Fine music can be also heard drifting through the various bingo halls for the players' enjoyment. The main Bingo area is an atrium with a stage where the caller (person who announces the numbers) stands. The stage in bingo halls are normally done up with various decorations to add more atmosphere to the occasion.

Gone are the days where bingo halls are regarded as smoky places just for the older people. Modern bingo halls are a safe place for young and old to have a night of great fun. The bigger bingo halls offer other side attractions like live entertainment, places to get food and other gambling games like video poker and video roulette.

The caller stands on the stage and clearly announces each number; once a player has a winning ticket another member of the bingo hall's staff will go the player and confirm that the player has won. Once confirmed the caller puts the information on a computer and displays the numbers on a screen for approximately 10 seconds for all the other players to see. Once the 10 seconds has elapsed the game continues.

Bingo halls are often used for charity events and fund raising activities. These halls are hired out to various organizations which in turn run events to raise money for charity or other worthy causes.

If you cannot get to any bingo halls, why not try http://www.bingodrome.com which is a great place to play bingo online.

Scuba Diving

Posted on Rabu, 16 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Scuba diving is an advanced form of diving. Fundamentally, it is the same as simple under water diving but aided with a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus. Scuba diving requires the use of an air tank that allows one to breathe underwater.

A number of scuba divers take pleasure in diving in lakes, while a few prefer to dive in river waters. However, the most exciting version of scuba diving involves diving into the unknown depths of ocean waters. Scuba diving is a daring sport usually pursued for recreational purposes. Professional scuba diving involves diving for commercial, military and scientific purposes.

As an amateur, a scuba diver may not be allowed to go beyond 18 feet under water. If a diver is professionally trained, then conventional scuba diving techniques will increase the diver's ability to dive deeper and longer. Technical scuba diving methods allow one to dive deeper than 130 feet. Surface supplied diving and saturation diving techniques may also be mastered.

Scuba diving should always be attempted with at least one other person present. Associates should stay together through the duration of the dive. The perils of scuba diving lie in wait for an inexperienced diver, who may ascend very quickly to the water's surface, resulting in a rapid loss of body temperature. This could result in vomiting and paralysis, and even cause death in extreme cases.

A trained diver can attempt this adventurous sport in a lake, sea or ocean but a clear water body is recommended for beginners. While diving for recreation, a diver must take extreme care not to harm or jeopardize marine life. In recent years, scuba diving has been gaining in popularity as an adventure sport, and Australia, Thailand and Hawaii are some of the more popular scuba diving destinations. Scuba diving organizations provide intense training at tourist destinations and organize special events to allow amateurs to enjoy the complete experience of diving.

Camping Tent Footprints – What Are They and How Do You Select the Right One?

Posted on Selasa, 15 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Most people who camp frequently know they need a weather resistant floor in their tents. Usually, this knowledge is learned the hard way through experience. What are tent footprints and how to select the right one?

One might assume that a tent they just purchased comes with a built-in floor. In fact, many tents do not come with a tent floor. For those that do, they may not have a weather resistant floor. That's where tent footprints come into the picture.

Not only does a tent footprint provide you with protection from the elements such as water penetration into your sleeping surface, they also prolong the life of tents that come with their own tent floor. Footprints are designed to take punishment and much wear and tear.

This all leads to the next question: How does one select the right tent footprint? Actually, it is very simple in many cases. This is because most tent manufacturers make tent footprints as accessories to each of the tents in their lineup. Because of this, you can usually find a footprint custom made for your tent. Just search for the footprint made for the tent you own or are purchasing and it will match perfectly.

In other cases where you need a specifically sized tent footprint for your tent there are many selections available for general tent use. Models such the Eureka Floor Saver line are an example of general purpose tent footprints that you can purchase.

When fitting a footprint to your tent you want to make sure it meets the following criteria. 1) The footprint must have the correct dimensions to cover the entire floor size or your tent. You want it to be large enough so that when you fasten it to the ground, it protrudes slightly from the tent floor outline. 2) The footprint must have a rugged and easy-to-use fastening system. Usually, you'll find a stake and ring system. 3) This is a personal preference item, but make sure the footprint has a color that compliments the tent interior.

Listen - Can You Hear The Crack of The Bat

For me the best part of the game of baseball or softball has been hitting. I wish I had a batting coach when I was younger that could have taught me the fine art of hitting. Giving my daughter a coach is my gift to her. Here is one evening where I spent some time with my daughter at her batting cage...

As I gazed back and forth between my daughter and this other girl I realized that after about 20 more minutes of hitting and talking with her coach that this girl (we will call her this girl) was smacking the ball. Projectiles were streaming off her bat. That loud crack from her bat was reverberating in the facility.

It dawned on me… That this is why I love this game so much. I loved that crack of the bat. I loved hitting that ball so right. I loved it when the ball whistled in the air. Enjoying the other aspects of the game like base running, fielding, and throwing were great. But, I was deeply passionate about hitting. The supreme challenge was why I started playing this game and why I continue to enjoy watching it today. The anticipation of watching a great batter gets ready for the pitch. Digging in, focusing on what the pitcher is doing and what the pitcher will do. Awesome.

As I continued to watch my daughter, Manteee, and this other girl hit better and better I could not help but feel an enormous amount pleasure. They were transforming in front of me. Whatever those coaches told them and whatever those two girls absorbed from their coaches was generating solid hit after solid hit. As a parent I felt that what I was doing was contributing to my daughter’s life.

I could not believe how happy I was for my daughter and the girl I did not know. There is something wonderful about learning and that willingness to be taught. Even though I only watched them I felt as if I was part of what was evolving in front of me.

As I was leaving that night I felt like my daughter had made progress. She was doing what she loved and getting better at it. Wow.

Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think would enjoy reading about baseball.

Chinese Swords: What to Know Before Buying

Posted on Sabtu, 12 Maret 2011 | 1 komentar
If you are looking for a sword worthy of battle you want to be sure and choose a blade that is made of high carbon steel or folded steel. What’s wrong with a stainless steel blade you might ask? Stainless steel blades are nice if you’re going to hang the sword on the wall. As a matter of fact, they’re often called “wall hangers”. Stainless steel blades simply are not made to stand up to the rigors of cutting and dojo exercises.

Two very popular makers of blades that are battle ready are Paul Chen and Cold Steel. Cold steel, although and American Company has most of their oriental blades forged in China. They have done well in replicating the look and feel of a well made Chinese sword at a very affordable price. Cold steel has a great video that you can usually get for free that shows professionals putting Cold Steel blades to the test. You can never go wrong with a Cold Steel Chinese sword or weapon.

However Paul Chen swords are quite a bit more popular in the United States and around the world. Most Paul Chen blades are forged with a technique called “differentially tempering”, meaning that the top of the blade is actually stronger then the edge, which means that it’s nearly impossible to break the blade when you’re really putting it to the test. You’ll probably pay a bit more for a Paul Chen sword than a Cold Steel but most people are happy to and believe it’s well worth the extra cost.

Another popular brand of swords is United Cutlery, which are mostly for show or hanging on your wall. United swords are usually much less expensive but are very nice for above the mantle or a great decorative piece for a study or office.

Probably one of the most popular Chinese swords that everybody wants to get there hands on right now is the Chinese Saber which was used by cavalrymen and foot soldiers in the rush of battle.

Whether you’re looking for a battle ready sword like the Paul Chen Zatoich Sword or one just to hang on the wall for decoration, you can be sure that it will add beauty and appeal to any room in your home or office.

Snowmobile safety

Snowmobile Helmets help.Following is an article by the staff of the Canadian publication SmartRisk and highlights the dangers associated with snowmobiling—a sport that is popular not only in Canada, but also in the U.S.”

Snowmobiling remains popular for Canadians seeking a fun recreational activity, or a versatile mode of winter transportation. But it also continues to top the list of winter's most lethal sports. The same is true in the U.S.

According to a study released in 2003 by the Canadian Institute for Health Information, 16% of severe sports and recreational injuries in Canada in 2000/2001 involved snowmobiles. That ranks second only to cycling (18%).

Most of those injured on snowmobiles were men in their early 30s. And of the 92 people admitted to hospital with snowmobile injuries, fully one quarter had drunk alcohol or taken drugs before heading out into the snow. Also, many were not wearing snowmobile helmets.

“The risk of serious injury can be significantly reduced by not consuming alcohol prior to snowmobiling, or prior to participating in any winter sports,” says Dr. Robert Conn, President and CEO of SMARTRISK. “People need to realize that by riding a snowmobile without a helmet or after they have been drinking, they are taking a huge risk which can have tragic consequences.”

Snowmobile help is readily available in Canada and the U.S. at sports centers and online. Use your browser to find online sources or snowmobile helmets; a click of your mouse could make the difference between having fun and having no life at all.

Check snowmobile parts. The working condition of your snowmobile is of utmost importance. There are now online sites where you can purchase snowmobile parts to maintain your machine in tip top condition.

A malfunctioning part cannot only ruin your snowmobile, but it can cause a serious and sometimes fatal accident. It is important to note that any sport or recreation that involves complicated machinery (such as a snowmobile or a motorcycle) requires constant vigilance to maintain that machine in good and safe running order.

The Lifted Truck Experience, Fun For Everyone

Posted on Kamis, 10 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Lifted trucks are very popular with people who like the monster truck look. This is predominantly popular with men who are in their twenties or younger but there is no gender or age limitations when it comes to lifted trucks. They are a lot of fun but can be expensive to accomplish. Before lifting your truck, be sure to check with local laws to determine if there are any restrictions on how high you can raise your truck. Some states have limitations. A professional who is experienced in lifting trucks will likely know what the legal limit is however it is best to also research this yourself before spending a lot of money on lifting a truck only to find out that it is illegal.

You should also be an experienced driver to drive lifted trucks. Because they are so far off the ground, they can be difficult to drive properly. This allows for a road hazard in case someone is hit. Because the trucks is so heavy and is far off the ground, the angle of impact can do a lot of damage to the person who was hit. Lifted trucks take longer to stop, are more difficult to control, have a higher risk of rollover and have a bumper height that is level to the windows of many vehicles. This can be very dangerous and pose a hazard. When teenagers who have a tendency to be a bit less safe drivers are behind the wheel of lifted trucks, this can be very dangerous.

Lifting a truck is not inexpensive either. While it is a great way to express your individuality you have to be able to afford it. Lifted trucks can be done at a body shop or mechanic who is skilled at doing this type of modification to a vehicle. They can be found by looking in a local telephone directory or searching online for a location in your area. Always get several quotes before determining which place to go to and ask how long it will take for the process to be complete before committing to one place.

Scuba Diving Equipment

Posted on Rabu, 09 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Serious scuba diving entails more than just the basic gears of the beginner diver. The diver needs more than just his set of mask, fins, regulator, oxygen tank, and wet suit to ensure the diver’s safety.

For external data that the diver should know, the assistance of a diving computer is essential. The diving computer provides information on the amount of time needed for decompression and even the depth of the dive itself. It also gauges data such as the levels of nitrogen content in the bloodstream, or decompression sickness that could be fatal to the diver’s life.

It would be wise to compare brands of diving computers before actually making a purchase. Aside from considering factors such as cost, quality and accuracy of the machine should also be weighed out. One effective way of doing this would be to search for reviews of the products and gather consensus of those who have bought and used it in their dives.

After buying one’s personal choice it would be prudent to study and understand the features and commands of the equipment. It should be known by heart, in the same way that a beginner is trained to deal with various situations that can happen to him under water. To get used to operating the product, it would be advisable to use its functions little be little in short-term expeditions.

Various unforeseen accidents can occur to a diver, especially when he is underwater. One trick is not to panic and to remain calm. Fear is a diver’s greatest enemy since it can blur out good judgment and training. Besides, another aspect that should be checked from time to time is the relaxed breathing of the diver. Panic can cause hyperventilation or worse, rapid ascent towards the surface can cause bubbles to form in the body’s tissues that could cause lack of sensation, immobility, or death.

General Horses Info

Posted on Selasa, 08 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Horse info provides some interesting facts about horses in general. Horses being herd animals are known to follow their herd leader for food and safety. This capability of a horse allows a human rider to act like a herd leader and make the horse learn and follow instructions. It takes a good amount of training with proper positive and negative inducements to make a horse compliant and easy to ride.

Since ancient times horse has always been a domestic animal. Being of domestic help, the training methods also date back to ancient times. This applies to horse breeding as well.

A herd of horses consists of a number of female horses (mares) and immature horses with just a few males (stallions.) The leader mare is called alpha mare.

Horse Gaits

In general, a horse can walk with four different types of gaits: walk, trot, canter, and gallop.

A horse walk is very simple. He flags on one of his four legs in the air at any give time. Horses are trained to walk on subtle cues like squeezing the sides or releasing and pulling up the reins.

A horse trot or jog results when his foreleg and the opposite hind leg simultaneously touch the ground. There are different ways a horse might trot. Example: sitting or a posting trot.

Canter or lope is a three beat gait in which his foreleg and the opposite hind leg simultaneously hit the ground, but the other two legs work in isolation with each other.

A galloping horse uses two paired legs to propel itself with full speed. Example: the way a horse runs in races.

Thoroughbred Horses

The thoroughbred horse breed came into existence in the 18th century in England. It was the time when mares were crossbred with imported Arabian stallions. The breed that came into existence with this experiment is well known for its distance running abilities and used in races.

Peyton and Eli Manning are brothers and NFL players. Peyton is a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts and embraces numerous NFL passing records, including the record for touchdown passes in a single season: 49 in 2004; and consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing: 6 from 1999 through 2004. He also holds most school passing records at the University of Tennessee.

Eli is the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Eli helped his team to secure the NFC Eastern Division Title. In the regular season finale, he threw a 78 yard laser to Burress helping his team to a big lead. While the Giants were quickly eliminated in a brutal performance against the Carolina Panthers the following week 23-0, Eli's first full season was seen as a success. He threw for nearly 3,800 yards, tossed 24 touchdowns to only 17 interceptions, and rallied his team to several exciting fourth quarter comebacks.

But this weekend Peyton and Eli are working together in South Louisiana. They're helping many young players get their minds off their homes that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

Peyton and Eli Manning are conducting sessions at the Manning Passing Academy at Nicholls State University.

This academy was founded by former Saints quarterback Archie Manning, who is also Peyton and Eli’s father and has been helping high school-age players from all around the country work on passing, running and receiving skills for around 11 years. A crowd that included coaches and college players assisted to help out.

Shortly after Katrina, during the 2005 football season the two star quarterback brothers were between the first celebrities to be seen on the ground in Louisiana, unloading relief supplies for the victims of the disaster.

Mastercraft Tires - Driving With Style

The contributions of the American company on the landscape of the United States in its history and contemporary makeup have an absolutely wide varied place its difficult to comprehend at times. Without question, though, a contribution that certainly went beyond the community development and needed product provider that is so commonly connected with various companies, was that if plant usage in the World War II effort made by so many companies. Such was the case with the future producers of the Mastercraft Tire when the hard goods point of their production facilities was transformed into a production plant for such items as: pontoons, landing boats and other military goods in 1941.

Its probably little more than an interesting anecdote to today’s consumers of Mastercraft Tires, but it seems to set a reasonable precedence for a company that has seemingly continued to give to its country of origin. The makers of Mastercraft Tires, the Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, has led the industry in several safety innovations, grew into a fortune 500 company and lasted through tumultuous corporate restructuring times to remain as one of only two tire companies to last as U.S. owned.

The company has continued its historical track record of existing well beyond than simply a firm that produces goods and collects the revenues. The company has held safety in such high regard that it established a joint effort, along with the National Safety Council, to create and implement a safety program and campaign that was dedicated to youth education.

Today Mastercraft Tires remain a tire of quality and safety to consumers which place both in high regard, but nothing less should be expected from a company that has continued to surpass expectations

Pool Tournament Eve and Can’t Sleep.

Posted on Jumat, 04 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
The title Pool Tournament Eve above would be more accurate if it said day instead of eve. As I type this article, 4:36 in the morning, March 1, 2008, I should be sleeping.

Tomorrow is the annual Dr Cue Tournament here in Pueblo Colorado. Billiards is pretty popular here in Pueblo. This tournament is the largest held here. Players come from all over the State of Colorado and sometimes a few other states. We have 2 BCA (Billiards Congress of America) National Champions residing here in Pueblo along with many other players who shoot lights out.

Dr. Cue (Tom Rossman) puts on a trick shot exhibition the night before the tournament. I attended this show last night where I payed my entry fee of $40 and watched Tom put on a great show as usual.

The pool hall where this tournament is played is about 15 minutes from my house. I made it home by 10:30 PM and finally fell asleep around 11:30. Right on nice job. Get some rest before the tournament. Not.

My eyes popped open around five till two and I have not been able to get back to sleep. Thursday night wasn’t much better because I only slept about 4 hours. I am hoping that writing this post gets me tired.

I will be bringing my lap top to this tournament and plan to report on the event between my matches. I will also be bringing my video camera which is also a pretty cool digital camera. This should make for some cool reporting and hopefully some interesting and exciting content.

Between a couple of brain freeze attacks and and watching some billiards on my DVR another half hour has gone by. It is now 5 in the morning and I must be present in the pool hall by 10:00 AM. Ouch. Don’t they know that pool players are not early risers by nature?

Well maybe my plan is working. I just experienced a yawning attack. I think I will attempt to get about 3 or 4 more hours sleep time in before the big Dr Cue Pool Tournament today.

That’s it for now.

To Your Run Out Success,

Ted

Generating Excitement At Sporting Events

Posted on Rabu, 02 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
From August through March, sports enthusiasts everywhere can be found watching their favorite college football or basketball games at tailgating parties, picnics, campsites or at home.

Because most remote sports gatherings have become high-tech, the use of satellite TVs, microwave ovens, computers and even blenders to whip up party drinks is becoming more the norm than the exception. And the common denominator is power. Enter the portable generator.

Once reserved only for emergencies, the portable generator has become the real power behind today's tailgate parties. Manufacturers such as Honda Power Equipment are designing generators that are powerful, lightweight, fuel efficient and that provide clean power necessary for sensitive electronics.

"Choosing the right generator is easy: Just select the appliances you'll want to operate and match the output of the generator to your needs," says Tom Pernice, Marketing and Product Planning at Honda Power Equipment. (You can find a handy wattage calculator at www.honda.com.) "Look for a quiet generator that won't disturb other tailgaters."

These tips will help you get the most out of your generator: Be sure to pack a power strip for plugging in multiple appliances, and because games can run into overtime, take along extra gas for the generator-stored in an approved safety container.

For the party itself, don't forget wet wipes for sticky hands, extra chairs for drop-in guests, personalized beverage containers so guests won't mix up their glasses or cups, and enough water to extinguish hot charcoal. Postgame, enjoy leftovers while you clean up and wait for the traffic to dissipate. Then plan for the next party.

Power to the people: A portable generator can add a lot to an outdoor tailgate party-or other special event.

Plugging in to the fun of a sporting event can be even more electrifying when you bring along a portable generator.

Dirt Bike Helmets

Posted on Selasa, 01 Maret 2011 | 0 komentar
Since Dirt Bike riders spend most of their time doing stunts, racing, riding on steep hills, uneven ground and rough terrain, the Helmet becomes the most important component of a Dirt bike safety gear. Choosing the right Dirt Bike Helmet should not be based only on the style or graphic design but on the degree of protection, safety and comfort it can provide.

The Full Face Helmet, with its wrap around design, is the head-gear which offers the most protection for Dirt Bike riders because it guards the whole head. This type of helmet also shields the wearer from rain, wind, insects, dirt and cold. However, it can muffle external noises, and happens to be the most expensive type of Helmets.

The Half Helmet offers good protection for the top and the temple area of the head, including the ears. This type of Helmet is preferred by many Dirt Bikers because of its convenience in putting on and taking off, unlike the Full Face type. The Half Helmet is also designed to provide adequate peripheral views. However, it does not offer enough protection for the frontal part of the head.

An Open-Face Helmet offers good protection for the head, neck, ears, and eyes. It also has a face shield that opens up which can be very convenient. Though this type shields the wearer from rain, wind, insects, dirt, cold, etc, it a very good safeguard for injuries to the face, chin, teeth, and nose area.

Even if the chin strap is fastened, a loose Helmet can be uncomfortable and unsafe. Before buying any Helmet for your Dirt Bike, make sure you choose one that fits your head comfortably, which will not flop around while riding or making sharp turns. Lastly, always remember to check if your Dirt Bike Helmet is a SNELL or DOT certified or not.
