Brazil Is Ready For Some World Cup Action

Brazil, the World’s Soccer Champion beat up the Swiss local team Lucerne in a friendly match at the St. Jakob Stadium last Tuesday. Brazil scored eight times during the game mean while its opponent didn’t get to score at all.

The 1998’s World Championship winners are getting ready for their opening match against Croatia on June 13. The last international game that they will play before the World Cup will be against New Zealand in Geneva, next Sunday.

During the match played between Brazil and Lucerne, the goals were scored by: Ronaldo who shoot and succeeded twice, just as Adriano. The other four goals were kicked by Lucio, Juninho Pernambucano, Robinho and Kaka. All this happened in front of the eyes on 30,000 people that attended to watch the game.

The FC Lucerne team was promoted from the second division this year and many of its former players are now part of sides abroad.

Carlos Alberto Parreira announced that the team that will confront Croatia is composed by the same players that started their last competitive game against Venezuela last October, same team that started the game against Lucerne.

The Brazilians are training at Weggis, on the Shores of Lake Lucerne to be part of the 2006 FIFA World Cup, were they will compete along with another 31 teams for the trophy of World Champions.

The officially titled 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany finals are scheduled to take place between June 9 and July 9, 2006. The 2006 finals are the eighteenth to be contested. In June 2000, Germany won the right to host the event, beating the bids of South Africa (who will be the hosts of the 2010 FIFA World Cup), England, Brazil, and Morocco.

Brazil is part of the Group F which is also integrated by other three teams: Croatia, Australia and Japan.

First Teams To Classify To The World Cup Second Round

At first, there were thirty two teams competing for a common goal in Germany: make their best effort and classify to the next round. Three countries have already achieved this. Germany, England and Ecuador have earned their tickets to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2006. Costa Rica, Poland and Paraguay have been eliminated.

World Cup host country Germany, is leading Group A along with Ecuador, with 6 points each one while Costa Rica and Poland have no points.

England is having its best streak since World War II as they have won eight straight games. The final score on the game between England and Trinidad y Tobago was 2-0 with goals scored by Crouch who broke the deadlock in Nuremberg with a headed goal in the 83rd minute and his Liverpool teammate Gerrard that added a second goal in the 91st minute.

Wayne Rooney, who currently plays for the Manchester United, entered the game in the second half to replace Michael Owen as England was trying to complete a goal. This was Rooney’s first game since he broke a bone in his foot on April 29.

England is leading Group B with six points. They won the three points on each of both games played. Sweden earned three points as they won the match against Paraguay eliminating the South Americans. Trinidad y Tobago remains on one point.
