Bonds’ alleged cheating scandal hurting baseball history

Posted on Jumat, 14 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
Having just finished reading Game of Shadows – the alleged tell-all book in which the authors claim to have records detailing Barry Bonds’, as well as other athletes’, use of performance-enhancing drugs – it has become crystal clear that Bonds cheated, continues to cheat, and could not care less about it.

Bonds just about says this when he claims in his grand jury testimony that he hasn’t played in a baseball game since college when he attended Arizona State University. Basically, what he’s saying, and what he continues to say, is that he is an entertainer and not a competitor. He conveniently forgets how his alleged cheating has impacted the other players in the game, both past and present. And how, every night, in every stadium he plays in, he is the only person who is in on this little secret.

When I go to a game, I’m not there to be entertained. I’m there to see the team I support try to win. And when I make a wager on a team, I’m not doing it for the entertainment; I’m doing it to win. If I go to Vegas and play blackjack or craps, I consider that to be entertainment. While I would like to win, and I don’t believe the outcome has been predetermined, I still understand the odds are against me coming away a winner.

But Bonds apparently doesn’t see playing baseball as a competition. It sounds as though he views it as our opportunity to watch an “entertainer” stand up there and be walked two or three times a game and, maybe, just maybe, see him grace our presence with a home run. Get over yourself, Barry. Not only are you coming off like a pompous ass, you are also making an impact on the game that the record books will reflect forever.

For example, since 1999, when his steroid use is alleged to have begun, the San Francisco Giants have won or finished second in the NL West every year, except for last year when he spent just about all of the season on the disabled list, and they finished third. Take away Bonds’ production, or fill in the production that most players would contribute, and the Giants find themselves in a different position. Also, as he approached 40 years old, his numbers would naturally decline, not go up. With that factored in, the Giants truly would be hurting for production from Bonds.

Just ask Albert Pujols, who has finished second to Bonds in National League MVP voting twice, how Bonds’ steroid use has impacted his post-season award possibilities.

Unfortunately, the players who have truly been impacted by Bonds’ steroid use are the players who finished playing the game years ago. Bonds, along with Mark McGwire, has succeeded at setting the bar so high that no one will be able to approach their records. In doing so, they have made the average fan believe that 40 home runs a season is nice, but not Hall of Fame-worthy. One player who has been affected by this is Andrew Dawson. Dawson hit 438 home runs and drove in 1,591 RBIs. He also played baseball for 21 years and has 2,774 hits with 8 Gold Gloves and 314 stolen bases. With close to 10 knee surgeries, Dawson should have been the one allowed to take performance-enhancing drugs, not Bonds.

One thing I love about Bonds is that he refuses to even admit that Game of Shadows exists. The book has been out for about three months now and I have yet to hear of a lawsuit filed on Bonds’ behalf that contests the contents of the book. And yet everyone just casually goes about their sports day, without a care that Bonds continues to cheat because, as an entertainer, he feels he can.

As the book explains, Bonds has never had to stand before anyone and explain his actions – not even when he was a kid. He was always the best player on the team, received the benefits that comes with that title, and he continues to expect that to be the case. Regardless of how it impacts his body, the other players in the game, the kids growing up who are learning the game, or the record books – Bonds is concerned with one thing – reaping the financial advantages that being an “entertainer” in baseball provides.

And regardless of who has to pay to make that happen, Bonds is only too happy to stand there and take the paychecks and accolades that come with it. I’ve often wondered how he sleeps at night, knowing that he has an advantage that many other players don’t have – that he has cheated to get to where he is. And the only answer I can come up with is that when you are on the stage and being an entertainer, it’s just acting. It’s not who you really are – so you can get away with more. The question I have for Bonds is, when the show is over and you walk off the stage – who are you then?

A medical history and physical examination is recommended prior to receiving treatment for weight loss and body sculpting. We are a body-conscious society and body sculpting can increase self-esteem and job potential. The best candidates for body sculpting have firm, elastic skin and are in good health.

Body sculpting movements are generally easy to follow dance steps that will insure you have fun, while getting the results you want. Targeted bodysculpting will smooth out any remaining problem areas and add definition.Even the most dedicated body sculpting enthusiast may find the deeply buried abdominal muscles hard to train. Body sculpting classes may consist of boxing, circuits, sports drills, cycling, body sculpting, treadmill work, Pilates, FreeMotion and/or anything else the instructor can think of. Often classes will alternate simple one minute intervals of cardio combined with one minute intervals of body sculpting.

Supplementing workouts with sculpting bands will also help encourage definition. Lightweight body sculpting bands provide the right amount of resistance to help to shape long, lean muscles. Heavyweight body sculpting bands provide additional resistance as you start to build your strength and can help to accelerate results. The small group weight training and body sculpting sessions are designed to improve strength and tone muscles. You willl shape and strengthen all the muscles of your body while holding positions that improve your flexibility and balance while sculpting great abs.

Many Class stress body sculpting with light weights to tone and trim the total body without aerobics. Bob Sapp

Bob Sapp, an athlete born September 22, 1972 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is an accomplished kick boxer and martial arts fighter. He is known as "The Beast" and is most famous in Japan and Korea where he has appeared in television commercials and has even released a music CD called "Its Sapp Time".

People almost always ask Bob Sapp if he is related to the Oakland Raiders defensive tackle, Warren Sapp, but he is not related in any way. He did, however, begin his athletic career in football, just like Warren Sapp, but as a college offensive lineman for the University of Washington. He won the coveted Morris Award during that time and was scouted by the NFL draft in 1997. He slipped to the third round draft pick but was picked up by the Chicago Bears as number 69 and was under contract for four years -- but with four different teams. Each team cut him within only one season. Unfortunately, he appeared in only one regular season game and, because he failed a mandatory steroid test, he was washed out of pro football.

Bob Sapp met William 'Refrigerator' Perry while participating in a Toughman boxing comptetition. He was recruited by the Japanese Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization known as Pride and he fast became well know and a fan favorite because of his size and aggressiveness.

In Japan, Bob Sapp fought lots of well-skills Japanese fighers and won all his bouts, largely because of his overpowering strength and huge size. His fans located his 'bullrush' technique where you'd rush his opponent, quickly defeating him. He was defeated by Antoniono Rodrigo Nogueira, then the world champion, during a New Year's Eve show.

Bob Sapp became involved in K-1 fighting. He defeated the four-time champ, Ernesto Hoost by TKO. His stellar roll in K-1 ended when he was knocked out by Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in only 86 seconds during the Saitama event held March 30, 2003. During the fight, Filipovic broke Sapp's orbital bone.

Bob Sapp has been seen on American television and may be in the process of signing a deal with a food company that produces chicken dinner products because of his reputation for eating a whole chicken before any fight. He has performed as a professional wrestler and his ever-evolving career is expected to continue change. Who knows what we will see from Bob Sapp in the future.

Solar Charger for Camping or Anywhere in the World!

Posted on Selasa, 11 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
I purchased a Soldius1 solar charge last year to charge my granddaughter’s iPod and cell phone while we where camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

It comes with seven plastic adapters for charging 250 different devices including power-hungry iPods, Zen Micro MP3 players, BlackBerrys, and mobile phones from Nokia, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and Motorola.

The solar charger worked just like the manufacturer said it would, and charged my granddaughter’s iPod in less than 3 hours. Where we go camping there are more moose than cell phone towers, so keeping the phone charged wasn’t a problem.

This is a fantastic charger, but with a 1.1 watt/6 volt rating you’re limited to the
number of devices it can charge during the course of a day.

This fact was born out when my wife and I recently took my granddaughter and two of her friends camping. The camp site looked like a satellite store for Radio Shack.

Try as it might, the Soldius1 was no match for all the electronic gizmos these teens brought along. We definitely needed MORE POWER.

The Brunton Solaris 25 solar charger with 25 watts/15.4 volts worth of charging power, gave us exactly what we needed. Its high output solar panels charge everything from cell phones to car batteries. Best of all, it charges iPods and cell phones in half the time it took for the Soldius1.

When you consider the wide range of larger electric devices it can power, the
durability, (they use these on the polar ice cap), and the speed with which it charges, the Brunton Solaris 25 is a real value.

One more thing - you can connect up to three units for triple the power.

Whether you’re using a solar charger for camping or charging the batteries on your yacht, it’s hard to beat cheap and clean solar power.

The house of the opening match for the 2006 World Cup, the Allianz Arena Stadium

Posted on Minggu, 09 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
The responsibles for the construction of the stadium that will host the opening match between Costa Rica and Germany are the architects Herzog and DeMeuron; they opted for a similar construction as the old Munich Olympic stadium which was categorized as one of the most spectacular pieces of post-war architecture in Germany.

Its particular cover is made of acrylic tiles held by high steel masts. The circumference is 800 meters and it has a capacity of 66.000 seats.

The new stadium will look like an enormous Zeppelin with a length of 259 meters, 227 meters width and 50 meters height.

The structure is covered by a skin of more than 2784 pillows all puffed up with air and stuffed with up to eight light bulbs. The special skin floats above the 7 floors that compose the monumental stadium. The skin is made of a special material which will withstand heavy weather, snow, rain and also fireproof. Those pillows can be illuminated of different colors and all the seats are sheltered from the rain. With the largest parking area in Europe which has a capacity of 11.000 cars, the visitors will be guided by the colors of their teams.

Its name came up because of the Allianz insurance company which donated 110 hundred million Euros in order to have their logo and name associated with the considered the most attractive soccer stadium in the world for many people.

The total cost for this amazing soccer arena was 340 million Euros with another 300 million invested on the preparation for the World Cup inauguration of the first match of the tournament.

Quarterbacks will be back!

Some of the players that suffered important injuries last NFL season as Carson Palmer, Daunte Culpepper, Drew Brees, Donovan McNabb, Brian Griese, Chad Pennington and Marc Bulger have something in common: they will try to be present at the next Football season this 2006, basically forgetting they had some physical problems just a few months ago.

Next NFL season will start next September as every year, but we are waiting to see which of the players will be able to start off in good shape after that kind of injuries.

Probably the most terrible case occurred on the first round of the playoffs when Carson Palmer from the BengalĂes of Cincinnati suffered the shatter of three ligaments on his left knee, fact that made him leave the match against Pittsburg.

This unfortunate incident happened after throwing a ball to score on the first move of the game against Pittsburg. It was Palmer’s best season during his career with 101.1 points, 3836 yards, 67.8% complete passes and 32 touchdowns.

The other players I previously mentioned also had serious problems last year and maybe one of the main questions is whether they will be really prepared to face the next football season. Also, I imagine that they as players are wishing to get better and to give their best for their teams and for the main passion of their lives: football.

NFL season is the most awaited event of the year and it is not going to be the same without these quarterbacks and all the effort they always place in every single game they play.

Hoping you will get better, good luck guys!
