Bowling Tutorials Teach a Person How to Deliver a Bowling Ball

Posted on Kamis, 24 November 2011 | 0 komentar

A person must knock down the pins to score points in bowling. Some people find it difficult to roll the bowling ball and hit the pins. Many times if the balls are “railed”, they get frustrated and eventually lose a game. It is important to learn the basics of bowling from the footwork to the release of the ball.

Tutorials may help a person be more precise and exact with striking the pins. The delivery of the ball is important in this game. If a person is able to execute the ball as he did to achieve the previous strike then the following deliveries will result in similar strikes. Consistency must be practiced in this sport - that is why they call bowling a game of repetition.

There are lessons to teach intermediate bowling techniques that will help a person learn how to strike consistently and leave no pins standing. Here are steps on learning the basics:

1. A player may pick up the ball and walk straight towards the foul line. This will be his starting position; or he may turn with his back to the pins before turning to face the pins.

2. It is not advisable to position the ball in the center of the body; it is better if the ball is held at his side so that it will be easier for him to execute a straight arm swing.

3. Before he turns to face the pins and aiming before the delivery, he must relax and take a deep breath to take away the tension and pressure in the body that affects the way a player will deliver the ball.

4. If the person is right handed, he must use his right foot as his first step position and left handed bowler would use his left foot. These positions are to favor the strong side of the body so that he can deliver the ball comfortably.

5. He must hold the ball away from his body, make a consistent out, and down movement with the ball. When the ball is positioned for the back swing he may take his third step, and then swing the ball for the release as his final step.

Movements and executions are important in the delivery of the ball. The way he releases the ball and knows the basic movements will allow a player to make strikes on the pins. He must remember to keep the motion smooth and precise for a better performance when bowling.

Bowling Tournaments: Where Fun and Money Come Together

What is so impressive about bowling?

For starters, it is a game that almost anybody can engage in. It is a relatively easier sport to play than others that involve more skills and techniques. It is also less expensive to play than many other sports and is all fun, with no trouble getting the ball to start rolling down the lane.

No wonder nearly 100 million people are now "hooked on" bowling.

Not all of them are really serious about the game but there are many who desire to join leagues and play in tournaments. In fact, in the United States, out of the 50 million people that play bowling, only 6 million belong to a league or play in tournaments.

What are bowling tournaments?

Competitive people who really want to succeed in the world of bowling are the ones that play in tournaments. The gratifications that every bowler obtains in competition are not just personal advancements as far as bowling is concerned, but also can produce monetary satisfaction.

However, it is not that easy to win in a tournament. It takes much practice and many skills to win the game. Here is a list of some tips that will make bowling tournament playing more gratifying.

1. Have enough time to randomly check all your equipments before leaving your residence or place of work. It will be very hard for you to go back once you have arrived at the tournament's venue.

2. Be professional.

Do not just arrive on time but ahead of time. This will give you enough time to condition yourself for the game and will make you more relaxed and comfortable about the place, the people around you, and the other players.

3. Take advantage of "pre-game" exercises.

Do not think that it is just a practice game so you do not have to give it your best shot. Keep in mind that this the time that you want to make a good impression. As the experts say, "pre-game" exercises can make or break your progression.

4. Keep focused.

While in the game, always make it a point to keep your head upright. Maintain a good level of concentration. If the pins are not going your way, cool it! Bad temper will only get you into more trouble.

Bowling in a tournament can really make a big difference in a bowler's career but things is still the same - you are trying to make a strike or to win the game, whether for fun or for the tournament.

In sports, what matters most is that you have played the game well.

Choosing Your Bowling Gear

Posted on Sabtu, 29 Oktober 2011 | 0 komentar
Bowling is a fun sport and it should be. Although it's a sport which was initially not meant to be played by everyone, choosing the right kinds of gears makes it possible for almost all people to enjoy the game.

Choosing the right bowling gear can elevate one's game if he is serious about bowling. One can actually play the game without going through the hassle of buying and bringing his own gear, but it's so much better to play with your own gear. It's like playing a guitar, once you buy a guitar and you get used to it and the same is true of bowling.

Here are some of the essential bowling gears which one must have to step up his bowling game:

Ball

A serious bowler must have his own bowling ball/s. Bowling balls differ in weight, which is probably one of the most important things to consider when choosing a bowling ball. The general rule in bowling is that a person can use a ball which weights 10% of his total body weight. This means that a person who weights 140 pounds can use a ball which weights up to 14 pounds.

In choosing a bowling ball, one must also assess the comfort that it brings to the hand and the wrist, the right distance of the finger holes, and the general feel of the ball.

Shoes

Some people may find bowling shoes funny-looking, however, they are very important in bowling. The right kind and size of bowling shoes allows the bowler to concentrate more the game and less on the little irritating details that come along with rented shoes from the alley.

Bag

Bowling bags should be bought if one desires the convenience they bring. Today's bowling bags can accommodate more than one bowling ball and the other accessories that might be needed.

Wrist supports

Not all bowlers use wrist supports but they do help in training the wrist to perform the correct release of the ball with the right position.

Buying essential bowling gear is important if a player wants to move up to another level. Gear refers to the tools which you use to be able to achieve a better style of play or simply to train yourself to play properly...

The Basics of Bowling: It All Boils Down to Ball Fitting

Posted on Kamis, 30 Juni 2011 | 0 komentar
Learning the basics of bowling is never a difficult task. If one is eager to learn the basics of bowling, he can start by focusing on the selection of a ball the fits properly.

The first step in choosing the right bowling ball is determining if the ball feels right to the one who will use it. Many players opt to use the same ball whenever they bowl after they find they like. When they feel comfortable using a particular ball it affects their bowling performance. The weight of the ball must be considered as it has a great impact on the bowlers balance. The ball should not be too heavy for the bowler's size. If the bowler does not have balance, the performance may be less than desired. This is why it is important to choose a ball that is right for the weight of the bowler.

The fit of the ball should be the primary concern in the selection of a ball. The ball should follow the configuration of the bowler's hands. The holes' sizes and the distances between them should be in accordance with the normal grip of the bowler and may vary depending on which grip he/she may use.

Inserting a good portion of the finger in the holes will allow a better grip of the ball and is why it is important that the finger fit comfortably in the holes. However, the holes should not be too big for the fingers. An improper fit causes a tendency for the grip to be loose or the fingers to slide when swinging the ball.

The bowling ball is an important consideration when learning the bowling basics. The ball should perfectly fit the fingers to have a better grip of the ball. Having a better grip allows a better release and enhances the performance.

When a person knows how to choose a ball that is right for him/her, then it is easier for him/her to perform the moves and strategies needed. Bowling will never be difficult as long as he/she knows the basics of bowling, and chooses the right ball.

Bowling Safety: Playing Out of Harm's Way

Posted on Minggu, 30 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
There are so many great things about bowling that many people are lured to play the game.

Almost anyone who is interested in sports would probably want to try to bowl. In fact, even those who do not have any particular interest in other sports enjoy this one because bowling is so easy to play that anyone can enjoy it.

No wonder almost 50 million people play this game in the United States, with over 6 million bowlers who are determined enough to join leagues or other competitions.

With so many people playing it is important to know something about bowling safety. Many players tend to overlook the safety procedures that need to be used when playing the game. Neglecting the safety rules in the bowling alley could cause serious injury, whether playing or observing. Therefore, it is important to know the safety rules when playing the game.

Here are some of the things that each player must try to observe in order to avoid serious injuries.

1. Warm-up exercises

Basically, it is important to have for warm-up exercises before playing the sport. This is a universal rule for every player in whatever sport he or she is participating.

It is important to stretch those muscles in order to avoid serious injuries like "pulled" or torn muscles.

2. Wear the proper bowling shoes

It is important for every bowler to use the right bowling shoes. This will prevent unnecessary slips that cause strained muscles whenever the player has to "slide-step" as he or she "bowls."

3. Never use one hand in handling the ball

This can create strains of the player's hands and back. Statistical reports show that 7 out of 10 players use only one hand which is why this is considered the most common mistake of every bowler. Besides, a 16-pound ball is relatively heavy to pick with just one hand, right?

4. Never intersect on the "foul line"

Usually, before the game starts, the lane is lubricated, so if a player crosses the "foul line" or the sides of the lane, the player accumulates oil on his shoes making them slippery. A fall may occur that could cause serious injury.

These are just some of the many safety rules that every bowler must know. Without understanding these safety rules, injury and accidents in the bowling lane will be inevitable.

Bowling Rules! Some Reminders on How the Game Should Be Played

Posted on Sabtu, 29 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
Bowling is a fairly simple game, which may be the reason why so many like it; making it one of the most played recreational sports today. The rules surrounding the game are even simpler.

Here is a brief look into the rules of bowling as well as some etiquette points you should remember the next time you go to the lanes.

Rules

Attire
There is no real regulation apparel when bowling, except for the shoes. This is because the surface of the lane has to be protected for playing consistency. There are special shoes made for bowling and can be rented at the lanes or purchased at reputable sporting goods stores.

Ball
A regulation ball is no more than 27 inches in circumference and weighs between 10 and 16 pounds. Most balls have three finger holes for better grip, but it is not uncommon to see bowling balls that have just two holes.

Play
A bowler will need to complete a series of 10 frames to complete a game or “string”. The goal is to be able knock down the largest number of pins possible within a limited number of tries.

The perfect game is scored at 300 points, meaning that the bowler was able to accomplish 12 consecutive strikes in the game.

Restrictions
When making an approach, the bowler must not step over the foul line. The foul line is located 60 feet before the head pin. A foul occurs when a ball leaves the bowlers hand passing over the foul line while any body part of the bowler touches the alley, gutters, and division boards beyond the foul line. If a foul is called, the throw is counted against the bowler and any pins that fell with that foul throw will be re-spotted.

Etiquette
- Do not take too much time in your approach. Take a few moments to concentrate but do not take an unnecessarily long time to do so.

- Be ready to bowl when it is your turn to avoid lags in playing.

- Only one bowler can play at a time. The rule of thumb, should there be any contention, is to allow the bowler on the right to go ahead.

- When not in play, stay out of sight and/or seated behind the bowler currently playing. This is to avoid distractions. Heckling and/or making unnecessary sounds at any time during a play is prohibited as well.

You can now hit the lanes with more than just knowing how to knock pins down with a ball. You will develop a healthy dose of sportsmanship as well as patience and consideration for others - and that’s always a good thing!

Bowling Outfit that Suits You

Most people bowl to enjoy the game and be with friends. Birthday parties, reunions, etc. are often held in a bowling alley. This can often be a way of having fun and becoming bonded while playing a game.

The attire of a person in a regular game may depend on the type of occasion to which he was invited. The friends he will be with and the venue are important to remember as these may require that players wear the proper clothing, perhaps like that worn in a tournament or league game.

In a regular game with family or friends, a player may want to wear a nice pair of pants and a T-shirt. Rubber soled shoes are allowed in some venues and if there are these shoes available they would be the better choice. Some alleys have flooring on which a person wearing these would have an advantage...

In tournaments were there are standard rules to be followed, it is important that a person be properly dressed according to the rules set by the organization. Most tournaments require their players to wear T-shirts with collars, slack pants, and leather safety shoes.

There are times that organizers provide the clothing with their logos and trademarks displayed on the clothing. There are also big tournaments where the player has his personal sponsors that provide the clothes and other personal bowling equipments that will be used in the tournament.

Organizers can be strict with their requirements, especially on a competitive level where there is much at stake. The mood may be serious and more disciplined in approach than a casual game where one is just having fun with his family or friends.

Other equipment a casual bowler may consider when he bowling is a leather bowling ball bag that for a personal bowling ball. When choosing a bowling ball, he must make certain that the holes of the ball fit his fingers so that he may execute his bowling moves easily and freely. He may want to find the heaviest ball that would work to his advantage in knocking down pins. The comfort of the bowler is essential especially during the spinning and releasing of the ball.

Everybody loves bowling. It is the game where a person can experience fun and excitement. The game is played by aiming and rolling the ball down a lane in an attempt to knock down all the pins standing at the other end of the lane (target). When the attempt was good enough to knock down all the pins that is when it is called a strike. If there are pins left standing and they are knocked down with another roll of the ball, he made is a spare. Most beginners tend to make a low score because their attempts railed on the lane and did not knock down any pins.

As a beginner, it is important to first have lessons to learn the intermediate techniques.

1. A person must know how to be comfortable in swinging and releasing the ball. He must know how to relax and take a deep breath for a more focused attempt. This is a technique that will help execute a free flowing arm swing.

2. He must avoid an early drop of the ball by having a good grip on the ball, although it is not advisable to make a tight grip, because he may not create a spin or a smooth release of the ball. He should be comfortable with the ball in his hand to create a more decisive swing and releasing movement.

3. If the attempts are always spares - or less, he may change his starting position by giving a slight angle to his previous starting position. This could help him lessen the number of pins he is missing. He must know how to adjust his shots to make to improve.

4. The timing is important in making an attempt. There has to be good coordination between mind and the body. To make a good score, he must learn how perfect timing in the swing and release will improve delivery of the ball.

5. He needs to be patient in practicing how to convert spares. He must take some time and learn how to aim the release. He should remember how his change of timing has affected his attempts. If there are positive results, he may want to continue the process that he is doing.

A person must realize that bowling also requires creativity. To be very good at this game requires mental conditioning. What matters most is continuing to try to improve the game.

Bowling Kingpins for Leagues and Tournaments

Posted on Selasa, 25 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
Most bowling pins used in a casual game of bowling are pins that were specified by the American Bowling Congress. Kingpins in bowling are one of the most popular pins used in tournaments and leagues. They are much bigger than the normal sized pins. Professional bowlers use a big ball to knock down these pins.

In ten-pin bowling, they also use a big ball to knock down the pins. Ten-pin is more popular in European countries like England and Germany. In the United States, cities in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Brunswick have popularized this game and exported it to neighboring states and cities.

This game uses candlepins as their target. They are not removed from the lane after each attempt as they are in kingpin bowling. The lanes that are used in candlepin bowling are not oily compared to kingpin bowling, where the lanes are heavily oiled to meet professional tournament regulations.

Another kind of bowling that was also accepted by many people is the duckpin bowling. The game was popularized on the East Coast but originated in Baltimore as a summer sport when other bowling had declined in popularity. Duckpin bowling reached its peak of attraction in the 1960's where it had spread its popularity along the Atlantic Coast from the states of Georgia to Maine.

When manufacturers of pin machine settings stopped producing the equipment, duckpin bowling waned in popularity. There are still bowling alleys for duckpin bowling in several cities in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Kingpin bowling is sanctioned by most bowling organizations for tournaments and leagues. It is the standard game for many professional bowlers in every bowling event held by Brunswick, because of the big size pins and balls, which are standardized by the American Bowling Congress.

For the casual players that just want to knock down kingpins in kingpin bowling, here are some tips to improve your scoring:

1. He must find what he thinks to be the best starting position in front of the lane.

2. He may walk towards the foul line with the dots that mark his starting position.

3. He must turn around facing his back to the kingpins.

4. After relaxing, he may face the pins and concentrate on his aim.

5. Roll the ball to the lane and follow through with the arms and hands.

These few basic steps would help give a better performance in kingpin bowling.

Bowling Icons Who Made their Names in the Bowling Hall of Fame

Posted on Senin, 24 Januari 2011 | 0 komentar
The National bowling Hall of Fame has three museums located in St. Louis, Missouri. These are the (PBA) Professional Bowling Association, (WIBC) Women's International Bowling Congress, and the (ABC) American Bowling Congress; they display historical memorabilia of interest to bowling icons as well as the history of bowling.

The museum was formally opened on June 2, 1984, and exhibited many displayed historical materials and records of events that have been compiled by the ABC since 1932. In 1972, the ABC and the WIBC housed the displays in the Bowling Headquarters in Greendale, Wisconsin as a temporary home. By the year 1979, the two associations ventured, together with the help of AMF Incorporated and Brunswick Corporation, with the (BPA) Bowling Proprietors of America to find a permanent location for the museum.

The National Bowling Hall of Fame and Museum contains the records and profiles of bowling icons of the sport. One of the great bowlers that left their marks and are considered to be the best that ever played bowling includes Marshall Holman who is considered the first ever bowler to reach $1.5 million in earnings. He made his name as the best bowler in the 1980's, where he won more than 20 tournaments including record breaking performances in 1982 and 1984 by setting the highest scoring averages of the PBA tournament.

Another bowler to be named to the hall of fame is Nicole Gianulias. She was the first woman to sweep all four 800 series of the (LPBT) Ladies Professional Bowling Tournament when she was only a rookie. She also recorded 18 tournament championships and was named bowler of the year in 1986.

Mark Roth was the most dominant and consistent bowler in the late 70's, when he was named bowler of the year for three consecutive times in the years of 1977, 1978, and 1979. He also added recognition in 1984 when he swept every single opponent and eventually won the championship. He was also named bowler of the year during that time.

Donna Adamek conquered women's professional bowling by posting a record of five major titles between 1978 and 1981. She was named women's bowler of the year for four straight years; set the record for having the most championships won by a female in those years; and was the most dominant in the women's division.

Bowling Ball Benefits & Features

Bowling balls can be made of rubber, plastic or urethane. Serious bowler can order a custom made ball instead of always borrowing or renting one from the bowling alley.

Since balls are made of different materials, the performance of each varies depending on the floor surface. Bowling balls can be ordered in different weights. They range from 12 to 16 pounds and will work for any bowler, regardless of gender or age.

The Brunswick 'Scorchin Inferno' bowling ball is a good example. This high performance model is an upgrade from the 'Ultimate Inferno' and has proven to be one of the best sellers in the company's inventory. It's cover stock is the 'Activator Max' and performs best when used in a lane that requires heavy oil.

Another good ball is the 'Columbia Action Packed Bowling Ball'. This high performance ball does well and works best under medium lane conditions. Its cover stock is the 'M80^2' and is guaranteed to do well for the player who likes to make strikes.

The elite 'R43' bowling ball is one that can work in light or heavy oil conditions. Manufactures claim that the weight block, which is the energy transfer core of this ball, will increase the chances of putting more pins down than any other ball because it delays the transfer of energy until the point of impact.

Proper care must be taken to ensure the bowling ball is in tip top condition at all times. This means it should not be dropped which could cause damage to the ball and injure the people around.

The ball should be kept at room temperature and stored in a bag when it is not being used to prevent stress. The owner should polish it from time to time or take it to the pro shop to be refinished.

The customized bowling ball should only be used by the owner. This is because the holes were measured only to fit the fingers of the user and not anyone else. Letting someone else use it may injure the borrower. There are many bowling balls to choose from and the price of them range from $100 to $300. They come in many colors and designs which will stand out in the bowling alley. By looking at the conditions of the bowling alley, the bowler will find the right ball to get the job done.

7 Bowling Tips To Improve Bowling Game

Posted on Jumat, 24 September 2010 | 0 komentar
We’ve heard it many times before… practice makes perfect. And for good reason-it’s the truth! The best way to get better at anything is to practice; bowling is no exception. However, how you practice will mean the difference between slowly improving and supercharging your game!

Bowling Tip #1: Use the right tools

In any sport, using the correct equipment for the job you have to do improves your performance. In bowling, the ball is the most important piece of equipment you will use, so choose the right one for the job! Be sure to try out many, and select one that’s the right weight, material and finger-grip fit.

Bowling Tip #2: Are you bowling enough?

To progress at bowling, you need to bowl at least once or twice a week. The most economical way to get this amount of practice in is by joining a league. Usually, the more experienced players show up before the game to practice. This is when you can learn the most, from people committed to the sport.

Bowling Tip #3: Learn to walk the walk

While professional bowlers tend to use a 5-step approach, that’s just not suitable for someone just learning the sport. Beginners are usually more comfortable with a 4-step approach. You can practice your approach without throwing a single ball. Keep your shoulders square to the front, your head up, arm swing smooth, and your pace consistent and even.

Bowling Tip #4: Let ‘em roll

Spend time rolling the ball. A bowling ball should never be thrown. How do you tell the difference? A thrown ball will land with a loud “clunk” and then slide a few feet before beginning to roll. A rolled ball lands quietly and quickly rolls down the lane. If you find that you’re in the habit of throwing the ball, simply slow down. Try taking a slow, deep breath or two before bowling to settle any anxiety. You will hit more pins with a rolled ball than with a thrown one.

Bowling Tip #5: What you think is what you do

Spend time visualizing and analyzing your shots. Visualize your movements and your shots before you do them. If your ball goes consistently too far right, begin a little further left. You will learn to “feel” when you’ve bowled a good ball. When you do, write it down before you forget. What did you do? How did the ball feel? Where did the ball hit? Keep it for future reference so you can do it again.

Bowling Tip #6: What if I can’t be at the alley enough to practice?

Any smooth surface with a long, clear distance is suitable for practicing your approach. It’s not safe to practice the release, however, as a bowling ball will easily roll straight through walls if you miss your target! Not to mention you’ll ruin the surface of your ball. When practicing at home, mark your foul line and arrows in masking tape or other material that will not damage your floor. Also mark where your toes need to be for each step. Practice your approach until it’s second nature.

You can practice your arm swing outdoors with a bucket of water with a small hole at the bottom. The water drops on the ground will mark the path of your arm and the direction the ball would go. It’s a good way to see if you arc around your body when you bowl and which direction your arm is going. This can be a very enlightening experience.

Bowling Tip #7: Don’t spare yourself the trouble

It’s a very good idea to practice picking up your spares. A bowler who can consistently pick up his spares can easily hold a 180 average without getting any strikes. It’s especially useful to practice bowling at the 7-or 10-pins by aiming at them and bowling across the strike zone (the “x” on the lane) from the opposite side of the lane.

By practicing these bowling techniques on a regular basis, you’ll be honing the skills that will help you improve your bowling game!

Be Sporty-Smart: Choose Your Bowling Shirt Wisely

Posted on Kamis, 08 Juli 2010 | 0 komentar
In every sport, there is a winner, and every winner comes with a great shirt that he should say "thank you" for because every shirt that the player puts on is a factor in his or her performance.

That is why in a particular sport such as bowling, every player knows that he has to put on the best shirt that he could find in order to win the game. Why? This is because bowling shirts are specifically made to fit the individual needs of the bowler.

Basically, a bowling shirt is a special kind of clothing characterized by the typical "box-cut" style with short sleeves and a "button-up pocket" in the front. But its special features are focused on the unique, plain, two-colored chunk designs whose features tend to create the 50's look.

So for those who so not know how to select a bowling shirt, here are some tips:

1. Choose the standard design

A plain white shirt with a different front section is the typical design of a bowling shirt. A typical black-white combination would be nice especially if the player wants to have it imprinted. Experts say that a white shirt usually gives a better background for any imprinted design.

The classic bowling shirt is perfect for imprinted designs of any color. Imprinting is cheaper on the black and white shirts than on shirts of other colors.

2. Cotton snug

One of the best things about bowling shirts is that they are usually made of cotton or a combination of polyester and cotton materials. This fabric is very comfortable and gives a more relaxed feeling while playing the game.

3. Size matters

It is important to always consider the size of the shirt because the shirt is too loose or too tight it will affect the performance of the bowler.

What matters most is that the player can move, swing, and shift positions easily and comfortably when delivering the ball. Selecting a bowling shirt is not difficult just remember it must be comfortable as well as appealing and neat.

This by far has becomes one of the most sought after stress relieving games in the world. It's main objective is to get something really hard and heavy and throw it to knock down all of the pins.

There are more than 120 countries belonging to the International Bowling Federation, which claims that there are about 110 million people who now enjoy bowling. They call bowling centers 'alleys' and there are different sizes of alleys and gimmicks used to lure patrons to play the game. The largest bowling alley in the world contains more than a hundred bowling lanes. The average commercial bowling centers contain only about twenty five to thirty lanes. There are already 11,000 bowling centers in the whole world.

Bowling consisted of four parts: the lane, the approach, the pit, and the pin deck. The approach is where players take several strides to get the maximum adrenaline they need to release the ball and knock down the pins. There is a control line (foul line) which marks the place where players must let go of the ball. The player must not cross the line before or after the ball has been thrown.

In the America alone, there are more than 7,000 bowling associations in different states that support countrywide competitions for more than 4 million bowlers. Americans find the bowling attitude the same as their culture, however, they are unable to take credit for the discovery of the game. Since bowling history is colorful and full of twists and turns, researchers have discovered that the game is actually the very first sport that was discovered. Back in 5200 B.C. they found primitive balls and pins in Egyptian tombs. They also found Polynesian cultures that practiced the same sport and found lanes about 6 feet long. However, the development of the game, which started in the third century A.D., is credited to the religious leaders of Germany. A kegel - which represents the devil - was used as a pin. It needed to be hit as a sign of purity and freeing from sin and anyone who failed to hit the target was determined to be wicked. It was a practice that led the congregation to salvation and was even more standardized by Martin Luther. But when bowling was banned and used for illegal transactions, 10 pin bowling was invented to bypass the law.

The American Bowling Congress started in 1895. Now there are about 55 million players in the US and bowling has become the American game, played to unite and promote equality among fellow men.

Bowling can be considered one of the all time favorite sports in the world. Its popularity throughout the history of its evolution has a consistent trend that people seem to adapt and accept. In 1976, about 25 percent of the total population of the United States played the game. By the start of the millennium, the percentage has gone down by about 10 percent because of the changes of interest of many people to different activities.

There was a resurgence when bowling alleys realized that they had to modernize their facilities and equipment to keep with the trend of  modern technology. There was a total transformation within every facility and with all equipment. Computer generated scoring was one of the futuristic adaptations of the game. There were also improvements in the bowling lanes and pin machines to provide faster setting of the pins in the target area.

Many venues have realized that there was an increase in the number of casual bowlers when they cut the schedules of leagues and shortened their events by a few weeks. More people have time to go bowling because the availability of the lanes was improved. By the start of the new millennium, many people were working less than eight hours a day and this led to the adaptation by bowling alleys to a schedule suitable for employees that wished to enjoy bowling after work.

Many people have considered the change of the concept of bowling from a sport to a social activity. Some people see bowling as a recreational or social activity while others see it as a competitive opportunity.

People find many advantages when bowling. Playing the sport on a regular basis will enable a person to develop a fitness activity by learning how to balance and coordinate body movements. The bowling executions a person uses provides exercise through walking and swinging of the arms. It not only provides good body exercise for the arms and back, but the joints, fingers, hips, and legs as well. The muscles limber up when a person bowls on a regular basis, keeping the body in good condition.

A Short and Snappy History of Bowling

As the most popular sport during the reign of King Henry VIII of England, bowling is still one of the most popular sports in the world. Over 100 million bowlers from nearly 90 countries participate in the sport. The popularity of bowling has been traced back many years and the game has contributed benefits to many people world wide.

The memoirs of bowling start in 5200 B.C. when some archeologists unearthed ancient forms of bowling pins and balls in the crypt of a child with Egyptian lineage. This discovery proves that Egyptians were the earliest bowlers in the world.

From that time on, bowling has taken many forms, using different pins and balls and played for different purposes. For instance, during 200 A.D., it has been recorded that Germans were fond of festivities and "village dances" and that among their ancient rituals was a game that resembles bowling today.

In this particular German game, Germans rolled or threw rocks or stones at nine clubs that were made of wood. These clubs are known as "kegles", and that is why Germans who played this type of bowling were known as "keglers" and not bowlers.

After so many years of struggle for recognition, bowling was finally recognized in England as a form of sport during the 1100s.

From that time on, the popularity of bowling created an epidemic-like influence, infecting millions of people. King Edward III even prohibited the game so that his knights would focus their attention on the "archery practices" instead of rolling the balls.

By the 17th century, when the United States was still a colony, bowling was introduced in the area. The "Dutch" colonists brought this remarkable game to the Americans. They introduced a game of nine pins that are placed in a triangular formation, hence, the name "Dutch pins".

As the nine pins or the "Dutch" pins strived to claim fame, the state of Connecticut banned the playing of "nine-pin" bowling because some unscrupulous people used the game as a means for their gambling activities.

Connecticut then added an additional pin to the game, creating 10-pin bowling. This was the start of a new form of recreation as bowling continued to proliferate in the society. With this additional pin, this new form of bowling had definitely hit "the mark" and now many people all over the world continue to patronize the game.

With almost 50 million Americans playing the game, bowling is considered one of the most popular and pleasurable sports in the U.S.

A Practical Beginners Guide To Choosing A Bowling Ball

When you first start bowling, more often than not, you are never given any instructions on how to choose a bowling ball. It's not like playing a board game where all of the rules are nicely spelled out for you. When you first start bowling, knowing how to choose the right bowling ball can mean the difference between having a great experience and having a relatively frustrating experience.

If you have chosen a good bowling ball, you will concentrate less on how the ball feels in your hand and more on proper bowling technique. Technique, for a beginner, is more important, to a certain extent, than the ball you are using.

If you are new to bowling then you most likely do not have your own bowling ball. so, when you do bowl you will be stuck choosing your ball from those that are available at the bowling alley. Bowling balls provided by bowling alleys, known as house balls, do not have a reputation of being of the best quality.

Looking for a house ball that perfectly suits you is similar to looking for the perfect pool que at the local pub. The perfect house ball simply does not exist. You are more likely to get close to perfection if you know what to look for in a good house ball. There are three things you should concentrate on when choosing a house ball; the balls weight, the balls grip, and the balls coverstock.

Bowling balls range in weight from six pounds to sixteen pounds. The weight of the bowling ball that you choose for yourself should depend heavily on two factors; your strength and how well you can control the ball. Many beginners when choosing a bowling ball just pick it up and decide whether or not it is too heavy for them.

To help determine the proper weight ball you should take a few practice shots with the ball. During the practice shots if you are straining to pull the ball back in your arm swing then the ball is too heavy. If you strain to pull the ball back in a controlled manner you will lower your shoulder, your elbow will pop out to the side, and your back will arch to the side of your bowling arm. This is natural body mechanics. But, straining in this way will throw off your bowling technique and ruin your game.

By the same token, during your practice shots, if the ball feels if it has no weight to it then it is obviously too light. You would think that using a ball that is too light would not be a bad thing.  But, using a ball that is too light becomes a control issue. Unless you are skilled and have a lot of physical control you will power through a bowling ball that is too light and overshoot the shot.

A balls weight is important. But, it is not the most important aspect to choosing a good house ball. In my opinion, the grip of a house bowling ball is the most important aspect of choosing a bowling ball. If the holes of the bowling ball are too loose or too tight they will affect how you release the ball. How you release the ball is single most important factor in how well you can throw a bowling ball. Releasing a bowling ball is the last facet of control you have over the ball itself. After the ball is released, when it meets the lane, you no longer have any control over it.

You will never find a perfectly drilled bowling ball. That is unless it was drilled specifically for you. Here are a few rules of thumb for determining a good grip. You should not have to grip the ball tightly through your bowling swing. When you start your swing the ball should rest easily on your thumb. As you work through the swing inertia should distribute the weight of the ball easily between your fingers and thumb. If on the down swing you have to grip the ball to hold on to it, then the holes are too big. If the holes pull at all on release then they are too small. The weight of the ball should stay evenly distributed, between the finger and thumb, through the entire swing.

A final aspect you should keep in mind when choosing a bowling ball. Avoid balls with divots and nicks. Even if the are very small they will still affect the roll of the ball. Just like the bend of the pool que at the local pub. It can still be used but the outcome of the shot is unpredictable.

I hope this little practical guide has shed some light on the different things you should consider when choosing a bowling ball the next time you are at the bowling alley.

3 Striking Facts about Bowling for Soup

Posted on Senin, 18 Januari 2010 | 0 komentar
Since its inception, bowling has consistently obtained and retained its recognition in the sports category. In the United States alone, there are 50 million people that participate in the sport.

Because of its extreme popularity, the fascination for bowling has reached all classes of society, including musicians. Yes, the concept of bowling is so popular that even musicians or band members have used bowling terms when naming their bands. Bowling for Soup coined their band name from the sport.

Bowling for Soup is an all-male band that engages in "pop-punk" music. Originally from Wichita Falls, Texas; this band was recognized for its hit singles like "Girl All the Bad Guys Want" that was released in 2002. Their newest hits were "Almost" and "1985."

The band's popularity soars as they continue to create songs that are widely accepted by the "pre-teen" group.

For those who are not yet familiar with the band, here are five amazing facts:

1. The band got its name from "Bowling for Shit," a routine from Steve Martin's comedy album, "Wild and Crazy Guy," that was released in 1978.

2. They are known as "musical heavyweights" and drunk-rockers. But all of that changed when they were nominated for the 2003 Grammy Award for their category, "Best Performance Pop, By a Duo or Group."

Since then, they are no longer known as the "fat guys" from Texas. After the Grammy's, they now acclaim themselves as the "Grammy-nominated fat guys from Texas."

3. Their name has nothing to do with the sport of bowling, but they do bowl; they are not "true-blue bowlers" which is what they call themselves. Jaret Riddick, the band's lead vocalist and lead guitarist has stated that they play "badly" when it comes to bowling. They participated in a bowling event known as a "Bowl-a-thon," where Chris Burney, their bassist and vocalist, was able to score a "scorching" 70.

On the other hand, the term "soup" has nothing to do with edible soup either - the fact is that Riddick admitted that he is not a "soup eater."

Given all of the above, this band has made a great impact on the entertainment scene. They are very popular even if they are not into the sport of bowling. Whether it has been a strike or a spare, they have hit their way to fame.
